4.0 out of 5 stars A lively, delightful book of poetry, May 4, 2009

This review is from: One less road to travel: A collection of poetry (Paperback)
This is a delightful and lively book of poetry. As with much poetry it invites reading aloud. Several of the poems are award-winning. "Momma in Red" is one of my favorites. It's honest and spunky and also kind. I had the pleasure of knowing the author, and this book well represents her. She will be missed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Poetry with heart, April 22, 2009
This review is from: One less road to travel: A collection of poetry (Paperback)
I had the honor of reading this out of print collection of poetry by borrowing it from a friend. Ms. Shield's poetry is vibrant. It tells the stories of African American culture unashamedly with a tendency toward tears (whether they are from laughing or crying). Most notable are her collection of haikus. Several of the poems included in this collection are award winning but more importantly they speak to the spirit of the reader no matter your cultural background.

I humbly request a reprint of this collection so that more people may enjoy the work of this remarkable poet.
