Book Description

December 2005
One2one is a celebration of the rare moment of intimate connection between a photographer and a celebrity that results in the creation of a truly iconic image. Despite today's excess of celebrity imagery, there are still those portraits, and photographers, that rise above and define the public's perception of the subject. One2one focuses on iconic sittings and presents the images that define some of the most dynamic personalities in our time ? President Bill Clinton, Nicole Kidman, Georg Clooney, Charlize Theron ? to name a few. The images are complemented by comments and reflections from both subjects and photographer.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Integral Connection Between Photographer and Subject, June 9, 2006
By
This review is from: One2one (Hardcover)
'One 2 One' is a beautifully designed, richly detailed book by Elodie Mailliet and William Hannigan which serves to allow entrance into the relationship between artist and model. The question posed is 'what creates that chemistry between a photographer and a celebrity that results is the successful creation of the iconic image?', and the answers are in the form of conversations on both sides of the equation and roles of film clips and multiple photographs both casual and posed that give the public the persona of each subject.

This is not the work of paparazzi photographers but that of committed artists who work WITH their subjects in finding what makes them luminaries. Some of the resulting sessions include photographic sessions with George Clooney, Naomi Watts, Bill Clinton (!), Nicole Kidman, Salma Hayak, Drew Barrymore, Charlize Theron and many more. The comments from each of the subjects (as well as from the photographers) are as entertaining and insightful as they are further proof that much of what we see as a public image is 'manufactured' or molded in the best sense of the work ethic in the lives of those whose public personas represent their marketability and success.

This is not just another 'celebrity monograph' but instead is a testament to the mutual trust between subject and artist that must be present if a successful image is to be created. It is a pleasure for the eye and the mind. Highly recommended. Grady Harp, June 06
