Easy - Fast Readings - Light Weight, August 10, 2007
This review is from: OneTouch Ultra 2 Blood Glucose Meter by Lifescan (CD-ROM)
A new Diabetic. Nurse Councillor was elated when she saw my insurance would cover this monitor. She had at least 7 different devices, and apparently insurance covers mine, which she claimed was the best of the monitors she had to provide. This unit is light weight, delivers very fast readings, and uses small test strips, which readily intake the blood sample. It has notes for each sample, before or after meals, and other comments, which help recall what was happening when you sampled your blood. It also has a computer interface to graph the results, which I have just ordered. All in all - great monitor and easy to use.

Works fine for me, November 5, 2011
This review is from: OneTouch Ultra 2 Blood Glucose Meter by Lifescan (CD-ROM)
Not too long ago, I was diagnosed as having Type 2 diabetes. My doctor sent me to a diabetes counselor, who explained the basics of diabetes and the diet and lifestyle changes I would need to make. Then she explained the importance of monitoring my glucose levels. She then gave me a OneTouch Ultra 2 Blood Glucose Meter kit and showed me how to use it. The counselor, who was diabetic herself, said that she had tried many different meters, and the OneTouch Ultra 2 was her favorite, and the one that she recommended for patients.
Since the OneTouch is the only glucose meter that I've ever used, I can't compare it with other brands and models, but I can say that it appears to be well made, and it's very easy to use. The counselor included a vial of OneTouch test strips, some OneTouch Delica lancets, and a little bottle of control solution to get me started.
Having never used a glucose meter before, I was concerned that I would be losing a lot of blood (a real concern, since I'm slightly anemic) and getting sore fingers, but I was pleasantly surprised. The OneTouch Delica lancets are very fine, and I barely feel it when the tiny needle goes in. The OneTouch Delica lancing device that came with the meter is easy to use, and it has seven depth settings. The OneTouch test strips only need a tiny drop of blood to register.
The meter saves readings for recall later. You can also flag each reading with "before meal" or "after meal." OneTouch test strips are coded "25," and the meter confirms this after you insert the strip.
The meter kit included the meter, lancing device, and a handy compact carrying case. The case has separate compartments for lancets and test strips. The case is approximately 5½" x 3½" x 1".
The bottom line is that if I have to monitor my blood glucose, at least it's very quick and simple with the OneTouch system.

It's OK, July 18, 2011

I like how small the meter is, but the kit with everything included is actually bigger and bulkier than the others I have used, which defeats the purpose of getting a smaller meter. Other than the kit size, the meter is great!
