5.0 out of 5 stars A great hack-and-slash game for Wii.
Onechanbara: Bikini Zombie Slayers is a hack-and-slash game and a good one at that. Controls are simple: Swing remote to slash with sword, A is to jump, B and Remote shake is to clean blood off your swords, Z is to lock on, Nunchuck shake is to kick, c is to change form (Pressing C while playing as Aya allows her to fight with two swords), etc. Graphics are great. 3.0 out of 5 stars fun, but repetitive
It's a very fun game at first. There are 4 characters (2 of which you have to unlock) with 8 levels each. You'd think with 4 characters, 32 levels, and endless barrage of different types of zombies there would be some diversity in the game. But the boards, the game play of the characters, the zombies are all basically the same. No matter which character you are playing...

You can change the color of the blood. You have to swing your arms a lot in this game so it is wise to take a break after a while. Great game overall. Highly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars Insane action that goes the extra mile, February 13, 2009
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Onechanbara: Bikini Zombie Slayers (Video Game)
Addicting fast paced action. What more could you ask?

Well, you don't have to ask because OBZS gives it to you anyway. Not only does the standard play give you two killer main characters, with different play styles, and an incredibly deep and varied combat engine, but the extras and unlockables go far beyond the call of duty...

Hidden characters each with their own story mode to play through, a model viewer complete with moves and voice, multiplayer, free play, and on and on...

The level up system is very welcome addition, as well. Pick a character, and level her up as you see fit. You can continue to evolve characters outside of the main story mode.

If I had to find a negative, it would probably be the save function. In the proper area, you have to select 'save' from the option menu. I thought this was a little clunky, and I didn't see it mentioned in the manual.

All-in-all though, this may well be my favorite action title for some time to come. Very fun, and very hard to put down.

5.0 out of 5 stars OMG at this price!!??, February 13, 2009
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Onechanbara: Bikini Zombie Slayers (Video Game)
You gotta be kidding me. I was expecting some blood, chicks, and gore but not much more considering the bargain price it came with. Usually bargain price = trash in the wii game lineup. I am overjoyed to say that it feels like dynasty warriors with over the top, fast and frenetic combo killing action. The graphics shocked me as well because it is well done and smooth. Videos on youtube did it no justice, it looks crisp and clean. I don't have to say much more as others have said it, but I am so friggin happy to have an actual M rated game that is not marketed for kids on the wii. Hopefully this trend of good quality games continues for the wii. And at the asking price of 30 bucks, you can't lose.

No matter which character you are playing or what you are fighting, you just hack them with your sword a bunch of times.

It does have cool graphics and the whole theme of the game is very fun. It's just not the kind of game that you play for hours at a time because it is so repetitive.

4.0 out of 5 stars Surprising!!, March 4, 2009

= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Onechanbara: Bikini Zombie Slayers (Video Game)
I bought this game because it is babes slashing zombies but this went BEYOND the expectations of both myself and a friend who has played it with me.

The most frustrating parts are when the zombies grab your weapon, I mean what other game has had zombies being able to act the least bit intelligent? This game has *smart* zombies!

The graphics are good and play smoothly. The radar is helpful and being able to throw daggers from a distance is fun but nothing beats that up close and personal slashing into pieces or kicking in the face treatment after a hard day in reality. lol! :)

This game was so fun that my friend wants to play it just about everytime he comes over! Heh, now I know what to get him for his birthday.

The survival mode is really hard but fun and once you or your partner are down, you are DOWN for the count until you A) restart or B) quit or C) the Zombies get you and the game ends anyway.

All in all, the only thing that kept it from being a perfect score for me was the fact that survival mode should have a score system in co-op mode so you can know who's kicking more butt than the other. Lol! :)

4.0 out of 5 stars Everyone loves Zombies, April 23, 2009
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Onechanbara: Bikini Zombie Slayers (Video Game)
I got this game when it first came out. Not really the type of game i play either. I'm more the "Tales of Symphonia" or "Resident Evil 4" type of guy. But i thought, eh, what the heck. It looks fun, it has zombies, why not get it.

THE GOOD
This game is a party favourite. I invited my upstairs neighbors down (and his wife's sister and her boyfriend), and after some talking and drinking and overall mellow atmosphere (and a few oatmeal cream pies) i thought, i'd whip this out and play. Just for a change of pace.

wow! everyone loved this game. we all took turns playing, about 15 minutes, and it was a blast. Not hard to learn the controls at all. there's a tutorial/practice section, so we knew what the moves & buttons where. Even though the story isn't very rich, its fun to just slice and lob off zombie parts and dice up giants. The controls were simple, when your arms get tired, you just pass off to the next person. no big deal.

its fun to watch other's play, the action doesn't really seem to get dull when watching either.

The graphics are actually pretty dang good. there's the ability to stop the action, and swing the camera around the character you are playing. you can see the zombies, and the action your character is doing. and the cool part, you can stop the action whenever: a jump in mid-air, a slice, pulling a bloody lump of flesh out of creature, just walking. whenever, and you can zoom in and out and look at the character from any angle. sort of cool.

There's a co-op mode

there are 4 playable characters (one of them is really creepy)

the dialog is in japanese and the text is translated into english, but the voice acting is incredibly good.

THE BAD
I'll start with co-op first. Not really what I had in mind. It's just the two of you slicing zombies. sort of fun, but doesn't progress the story any. there was a time when the graphics completely lagged due to all the blood which had to be rendered.

second: your arms get tired! playing by myself, i did get tired. and bored. Let's be honest, slicing zombies only goes so far. :-/

third: after unlocking a new character (skimpily clad girl) you play the same level's again. Still killing zombies. the only difference is the boss fights. You fight the other 3 girls.

4: the game doesn't tell you that there's save points in the middle of the levels or how to clean the blood off your body (which makes you go crazy and eventually die). Nor does the game tell you how to access items you acquire. sort of had to figure that part out on my own :-(

5. the acrobatics are amazing. but, if you get knocked down. good luck figuring out how to get back up.

Overall, this game is pretty fun. I didn't enjoy playing the game by-myself as much as i did playing with others. The game also leaves a lot of questions. I guess, they want you to buy the 360 version to discover the answers. The acrobatics are very cool, but the not really knowing how to get up and getting pummeled while lying there, was frustrating.

The graphics are very cool. I thought they could've been better, but when there's scores of enemies surrounding you and blood is going everywhere, the Wii actually at times lags. I've also noticed graphics artifacts (hitting through walls, or zombies walking through you)

Don't expect too much from this game, and you'll be impressed. Expect a whole lot and you won't be disappointed, but you might get bored.

Bought this for my son and he coaxed me into playing it with him. I am not usually a fan of swordplay games but we have had a lot of fun with this one. He is an avid gamer and I am a "casual" gamer so it appears to have a wide appeal.

This is a good game to play when I don't want to think too much and just have fun. The graphics is excellent, which is a surprise for Wii. The game play is similar to Dynasty Warriors series, but I like it better than Dynasty Warriors because I don't have to spend time to customize my weapons. It is fun to play with a friend offline in the free play mode to complete quests together and unlock costumes.

The only drawback is that the story mode does not support split-screen, co-operative play because the story mode is for single player. Co-operative mode is only available in the survival and free play modes.

It would be nice if this game supports classic controllers and/or GameCube controllers because after swinging my arms non-stop for several hours, my arms get tired.

5.0 out of 5 stars An affordable, fun, eye-candy kind of game., October 17, 2010

In this game, you get to select one of two main characters and play through their story, and unlock several things, as you beat the story mode and then other available modes. Onechanbara is somewhat of a "beat'em up" and hack and slash kind of game. The main difference here is that you play with provocatively dressed characters. It would seem that the Wii version is different from the Xbox360 one, (as far as the stages/levels go) and there is no "dress up" mode, here, but you still get to unlock costumes, later on, in the game. The game play is fun, there are no puzzles in this game, no mini-game(s) either, but at such an affordable price, it's not a downside.
What I DIDN'T like about the game were how late some tips/explanations were given to a player in the game. Also, when you try to accomplish "quests" in this game, you are not told what to do or how. You clear the quest only after/if you've succeeded at accomplishing what was expected of you. This didn't make much sense to me, so I had to look for answers online.
Overall, a great game, and I'm still playing it.

Hack and slash button mash. Its a good game, nice visuals (again duh) a little easy after awhile but its worth picking up for the price Wii is still awesome.
