Customer Reviews

We are very happy this set of knives.

I don't like the printed words on the block (e.g., 5" Utility, 8" Slicing); I did not notice them in the photo on the website but wouldn't return them because of it.

The knives are solid and well balanced.

OK, nobody else wants to step up and do a decent review so here goes:
We, perversely, bought a set of Oneida knives through a Safeway weekly coupon sale...and likely paid somewhat more that the $60 price currently advertised here. We've probably been using our set for at least 5 years now. (Safeway still sells individual knives in their kitchenware section).
The knives are solid and well balanced. I don't know what the handles are made from, but they are dense and the triple riveting is very secure.
The blades are stainless, reasonably thick and not at all flimsy or wobbly. We often wipe them clean, but sometimes they do go through the dishwasher. It hasn't seemed to harm them. There is the occasional waterspot, but honestly, the blades are in very good shape. The steak knives *always* go through the dishwasher and they aren't any worse for the wear than the rest of the blades.
I dabble in sharpening my own knives. These blades take and hold an edge. I was slicing tomatoes just last night, and while the blade wasn't razor sharp, it was very sharp. And it hadn't been sharpened for at least a year. I don't honestly remember how sharp they were out of the box, but I didn't have any complaints at the time.
I don't own Henckels so I can't really compare, but I do appreciate a sharp blade. So I'm judging that this is an inexpensive, but not "cheap" set of knives that you'll be very satisfied to own and to hold.

I've been using these knives for almost 3 years now. I sharpen them regularly maybe once a month using the Wüsthof 2-Stage Knife Sharpener, and I hand-wash them to prolong their life. I have to say, for the relatively inexpensive cost, these are a great set of knives with wide versatility. I haven't needed any other knife as a substitute for the knives in this block. Highly recommended!

Cooking is one of my hobbies and I wanted to have some decent knives in my regular home, vacation home and camper without spending too much money. This knife set looks good and is a good value; the knives feel sturdy and comfortable when using them and they cut well. The knives varied in their sharpness; the serrated utility knife seemed especially dull but the Santoku (my favorite knife) was extremely sharp. I hand sharpened them all and that helped. I don't like the printed words on the block (e.g., 5" Utility, 8" Slicing); I did not notice them in the photo on the website but wouldn't return them because of it. Instead of 6 steak knives I would have preferred 4 steak knives and a sharpening steel. I think the slots for the knives should be wider so you can put them where you want them or put other knives not from the set into the block. Otherwise I would recommend these as a nice day to day use set of knives.

came one knife missing and one knife cracked handle. Stake knifes are not very good. I am returning. I had these knifes before (got them in supermarket) and they were very good, but this set is not...

I just own the paring knife, but it has great balance, stays sharp and cuts easily. I have bought other, more expensive knives but this one is the best.

this set has very sustaintial handles with a heavy blade guage and solid construction, zero flexing and very very solid..... also the set has a great selection with a large santoku, bread, chef, a couple of decent sized utility knives, a very interesting serrated utility... and a deboner / fillet knife....

it is really the best overall selection I've ever seen in a block set of any price... and they have contoured metal stops which eliminate a sanitary problem with where the blade meets the handle... great design and great set..

there were two cons though:
- the chef knife had a texture from a circular mill accross part of one side, so product quality inspection is a little weak, but it was slight / not worth send back for a new one
- the design of the chef was modernized / angular and as such it is lighter and lacks a little heft that you might usually expect with a chef knife... not a deal killer, but different

overall a fantastic deal at this price....

I am an avid cook and have tried to make do with various knives that were not sharp. These are great. Good selection for almost any job.

A surprisingly high quality knife set. I like the feel of the handles and the balance of the blades. They look pretty, are shaped nice, and can take a beating and be washed in the dishwasher. I replaced an old ratty mismatched hodgepodge with these. I would have given it 5 stars except 1) then angle of the block is very vertical so the knives need to be on the table or counter, not on a shelf nearby (where we like to keep them) - so they take up counter space and 2) the 6 ones on the left have serrated blades. Who wants that? Not me. I removed them and used the slots for my favorite knives from the old block.
