4.0 out of 5 stars Replacement probes
My thermometer conked out too. I just spoke with a Robinson Home Products customer service rep. She could not have been nicer. She is sending a couple of probes to me today at no charge. Call 800-245-2433, press 3 for customer service.

3.0 out of 5 stars Works Well
Pros: Loud alarm, easy to read display, strong magnets to stick to refrigerator
Cons: Cannot set seconds for use as timer

5.0 out of 5 stars Thanks for replacement information, January 3, 2011
This review is from: Oneida 31161 Digital Thermometer & Timer
I have used my Oneida digital thermometer for serveral years and was about to head back to Bed, Bath and Beyond to replace it when I read the review by Mel (copied below) giving the phone number for Robinson. I called, explained the problem (Thermo Temp always reads HI or LO) and the customer service rep immediately said "Yeah, that's the probe. We'll send you a new one." Fanstastic response!

I have used this thermometer to be able to get medium-rare roasts and steaks, for bread and for candy. I highly recommend it. If you have a problem, call the excellent customer service.

Pros: Loud alarm, easy to read display, strong magnets to stick to refrigerator
Cons: Cannot set seconds for use as timer

I like having a device I can use regularly as a kitchen timer and as an alarmed meat thermometer when I need to. The thermometer part can be plugged and unplugged, so when the thermometer is unplugged, it is just like a single-function timer.

The back has 2 strong magnets that hold well to my refrigerator. It also works well on a counter top with the hinged display.

My calibration check was within 1 degree F for both boiling water and ice water. Has C/F switch on back.

For use as a timer, there are buttons to set the hours and minutes, but there is no way to set the seconds. The seconds are displayed as it counts down, but you can only time whole minutes. So you can cook a 2-minute egg or a 3-minute egg, but if you like 2-1/2 minute eggs, you should look for a different timer.

All buttons are easy to use.

1.0 out of 5 stars Save Your Money, June 29, 2010
This review is from: Oneida 31161 Digital Thermometer & Timer
I purchased this thermometer and as fate would have it I damaged the probe and need to replace it. THERE ARE NO REPLACEMENT PROBES. This is nothing more than a digital timer now. This is the same item that Pyrex and Sunbeam market but here are no probes available for those either. These seem to be manufactued by the same company.

Keep the probe dry, do not let it sit in water. Call Oneida (888-263-7195) and they will transfer you to Robertson Home Products and they will send you a new probe. My new one is in the mail.

1.0 out of 5 stars Probe wire caught fire in oven, December 6, 2010

The new Oneida Digital Thermometer probe has a plastic casing on the wire from the Thermometer to the metal probe. (the old one had a metal casing, not plastic)

When I closed the oven door, the probe wire fell and touch the oven element, setting it on fire. Ash from the burning plastic coated the food, ruining the meal.

I returned it and looked at the thermometers made for an outdoor barbecue and they still had the metal casing on the wire leading to the thermometer probe. Take a close look at the probe wiring before purchasing a digital oven thermometer.

2.0 out of 5 stars Good timer, but not an accurate thermometer, November 19, 2010
By

This thermometer hasn't been accurate for me at all. I bought it last year for Thanksgiving since my older instant read stopped working (my fault, I accidentally immersed it in water while cleaning it.) It indicated that my turkey had reached the proper temperature much earlier than it should have. Still, I took the turkey out and sure enough it was quite undercooked. I had to put the turkey back into the oven and "wing it" (sorry for the bad pun.) I've was unable to find a way to recalibrate it (no reset button, no help in the directions.) If it wasn't for the timer I'd consider it completely useless.

I do like the timer, especially since the magnets on the back allow it to stick to my refrigerator. It's beep is rather loud, which I appreciate but other reviewers do not. I suppose it's a personal preference, but if you don't want a loud alarm it's good to be informed ahead of time.

2.0 out of 5 stars Cheap, November 26, 2009

Pros: Cheap. Loud.

Cons: Inaccurate. Nearly ruined Thanksgiving.

Bought for $16. Attempted to calibrate against boiling water & ice, missed both marks by ~5%. Used on Thanksgiving turkey in parallel with $5 analog thermometer. Thank god, the Onieda measured ~40deg (!) greater than the analog. Maybe the probe wasn't positioned properly? Dunno, but will definitely stick to the analog from now on.

I have been through 2 of these now. They are amazing for about a month, then they crap out. Stick with a manual thermometer.
