3.0 out of 5 stars Flimsy weight...
I recently purchased this style because it came with a bonus 4 place setting. I needed something simple to spruce up the table for Easter dinner, as we are hosting the whole family this year. Although they look great, I am embarassed at the chinsy/flimsy feeling these have. The forks are so thin that you might hurt your fingers if you grip them too tight. The knives on...

Oneida brings the same lovely design and balance of its silverware to its stainless patterns. The set I've used for more than 30 years still looks great; the traditional pattern has harmonized with a wide assortment of dinnerware. The size of each piece is ideal: nice long knife blade; good distinction between dinner and salad forks; rounded edges that feel good in the hand. (After using these you start to notice that some other stainless utensils don't have as nice a feel, size, or color.) This set will retain beauty and quality the you can enjoy "everyday" for years to come.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Flatware, January 28, 2005
This review is from: Oneida True Rose 53-Piece Stainless Steel Flatware Set, Service for 8 (Kitchen)
My mother bought me a set of this flatware 20 years ago, when I went off to college. I continue to use it as my everyday flatware. As my family has grown, I have been able to add to the set as needed. I am VERY picky about flatware. This has been perfect for me. The weight is great. It still looks as good as new. I can't tell the original pieces from the more recent purchases. It's a classic design that won't go out of style.

5.0 out of 5 stars Kudos for Oneida, September 30, 2002

I too have the Oneida True Rose stainless flatware. After twenty years of extremely hard use, it still holds up and impresses company for more elequent use. The flatware was given as a wedding gift back then and we have always thought this to bethe best and most practical of gifts recieved. I have purchased several sets for the same purpose. I also have missing pieces, some left at a condo at Hilton Head, others have been left in a cabin in Bastrop Texas, most still hangs in the silverware draw used every day in TN. By the way, my only complaint is the soup spoon will bend if using it as an ice cream scoop, but as another has already stated, it is easily bent back into shape. (This best done BEFORE the wife sees it!) Again, I would never hesitate this purchase.

4.0 out of 5 stars CNJ, May 5, 2005
This review is from: Oneida True Rose 53-Piece Stainless Steel Flatware Set, Service for 8 (Kitchen)
Oneida True Rose is a constant good value. I have gone through many sets. It is not the higher quality you buy by the placesetting but for my family and its rough and tumble use, it is perfect. I heard from a department store in my area it is no longer being made. Looks like Amazon is selling the last of their sets. Timing is everything..I'm buying 2 sets when it is
marked for One day sales or Friday Sales...it is a great buy for the money...buy don't expect it to last forever, get a clue, see the price..its a value not something you put in your will for your grandchildren.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great addition to my set., December 17, 2002

I've had an Oneida True Rose Set since 1985. My originals still look almost as good as new even though I use everyday. When I saw this deal on Amazon- I could not pass it up! Hosting Christmas dinner for the Family (which is quite large) always had me washing my flatware before dessert was served- now there is no need! My order arrived quickly and each piece was perfect! This is a lovely pattern and a great quality item.

5.0 out of 5 stars Shines Lasts More Than a Decade!, August 5, 2002

I have used this flatware daily for over a decade and the shine remains in spite of the amount of use and dishwasher cleaning! My family consists of two growing children and a husband that think nothing of silverware care and still this set survives! Of course, I have some missing pieces that seem to have found new homes via lunch at the office or who knows where and so, I am purchasing another set to add to the remaining pieces. The only thing that seems to affect this silverware is the teenaged son trying to serve ice cream with the soup spoon. However, it is not impossible to reform the instrument that is only somewhat bent. Buy this set with confidence!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent flatware!, July 30, 2003

I must say I was a little nervous spending $...+ on something I hadn't seen somewhere in a store. However, I was familiar with Oneida's flatware that was available locally and it was pretty decent quality - just not a pattern we liked.

True Rose does not disappoint. There is one other stainless pattern by Oneida that is similar, but aside from it, True Rose was just what we were looking for.

The pieces were just heavy enough to show quality, but not overly heavy like some stainless flatware I've seen. The forks were just a tad on the light side, but the spoons and serving pieces were absolutely perfect. The knives had the best cutting edge I've seen on flatware. The teeth were neither too many nor too few, and the balance was beautiful.

Grab this set while you can get the free 20 piece bonus set. That's what I did. Oh, one other thing. You can pick up the iced tea spoons elsewhere, but not here. They aren't cheap, but they looked great and were excellent in weight and appearance as well.

Very pleased overall. The icing on the cake was the free shipping and the fact that I got an Amazon 'Gold Box' discount

3.0 out of 5 stars Flimsy weight..., April 12, 2003

I recently purchased this style because it came with a bonus 4 place setting. I needed something simple to spruce up the table for Easter dinner, as we are hosting the whole family this year. Although they look great, I am embarassed at the chinsy/flimsy feeling these have. The forks are so thin that you might hurt your fingers if you grip them too tight. The knives on the other hand have a GREAT wieght and make you think that they are from a different set. The spoons are also thin, but unless you are digging into some frozen ice cream, they should suffice daily duty.

I am leaving my rating at 3 stars instead of 2 because the price pretty accurately reflects the quality of the product. When I bought the set I got the 20-piece set for free. Coupled with the free s+h (which was very fast), I thought it was a steal. In reality it was just a case of "getting what you pay for".

2.0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected, April 28, 2005

This review is from: Oneida True Rose 53-Piece Stainless Steel Flatware Set, Service for 8 (Kitchen)
I ordered this set for $69 now it's priced at $49. Not good. The stainless is the cheap stamped out stuff, very light weight. I had purchased a similar Oneida pattern several years ago for my parents and it was beautiful. This is not the same quality. You can't tell from the picture which set is which. I'm very disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Timeless, subtle elegance for long-lasting daily use, January 18, 2005

This review is from: Oneida True Rose 53-Piece Stainless Steel Flatware Set, Service for 8 (Kitchen)
We've had this flatware for over 20 years and I can echo the comments that it still looks every bit as good as the day we received it. The pieces are weighted just right and have held up very well over the years. The subtle rose design is just right - not too delicate or ornate, but also with a touch of class. I just ordered another set to replace those lost over the years. No, you can't use the soup spoons for scooping ice cream - but that's perhaps the only drawback I can think of about this set. You'll reap the benefits of this purchase many times over with this flatware.
