Product Description

Amazon.com Review

Sleekly contemporary, the five kitchen tools in this set have nylon heads that are heat-resistant to 400 degrees F and brushed, 18/8 stainless-steel handles to match the accompanying stainless-steel storage canister. For comfort and stable handling, the handles are rounded on their bottoms and have soft, ridged, Santoprene inserts as thumb rests. Handles also have hanging holes as a storage alternative to the canister. The tools are a 13-inch basting spoon, a 13-inch slotted spoon, a 13-inch ladle, a 13-1/2-inch turner with a 6-1/2-inch slotted head for handling delicate foods like fish, and a 13-3/4-inch pasta server. The canister is 6-1/2 inches high and has a 4-1/2-inch-diameter mouth, ample for holding additional tools. The set is dishwasher-safe and carries a lifetime warranty against defects. --Fred Brack

Product Description

A most professional looking set, with its stainless steel handles and crock. Yet, it's safe to use on non-stick cookware thanks to the black nylon heads.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good basic tools set, April 28, 2004
By
This review is from: Oneida 6-Piece Home Chef Tool Set, Brushed/Black (Kitchen)
I bought this set recently to replace my 6 year old mismatched utensils, and I'm very happy with the purchase. The tools are visually pleasing as well as have a "solid" feel to them. I've washed all of them several times in the dishwasher (top rack) and they came out just fine. All of the tools are a good size, and the spatula is really long and angled at the tip but doesn't bend easily like cheaper ones. The spoons (one slotted, one regular) come to a bit of a blunt point so they are good at getting everything out of a bowl/pot. The container they come with is heavy enough to not topple over with the weight of the utensils and looks great. Considering the price and gaurantee, this is a good deal all around for people (like me) who just want a decent set of tools to display and use in day-to-day cooking. Put this one on the counter and leave your spares in the drawer.

Pros:
Sturdy container
Spatula is rigid, not flimsy
Inexpensive
Dishwasher safe

Cons:
None yet, will update.

3.0 out of 5 stars They melt..., August 13, 2005
This review is from: Oneida 6-Piece Home Chef Tool Set, Brushed/Black (Kitchen)
I enjoyed these tools for quite some time. And then one day I notice that the plastic/rubber coatings started to melt and the metal began showing. Based on the price your not really buying top quality, but I wouldn't expect to start finding little bits of melted rubber/plastic in my food. Granted they aren't big chunks, but it still isn't very appetizing. I spent a little extra money and bought the Calphlon tools and they're ten times the tools these are. My advice, spend a little extra for the good stuff and not settle for these.

I don't usually take the time to write reviews but figured that my experience with this item might be helpful to someone who was having a hard time deciding between a few products. I bought this to replace a mismatched set that I'd had. It came quickly and look very nice in my kitchen. I ran into problems when I went to use the soup ladel, the pasta spoon and well ok, almost all of them. The problem? They are WAY too top-heavy. If I didn't it position exactly right against the side of the pot, the spoon/fork/whatever would tip right out, and usually fall to the floor to create a huge mess. I can't tell you how many times my husband has sworn and asked me why I replaced the old ones, before proceeding to tell me I HAD to get rid of the Oneida's. There is no reason to make the handle so heavy (I don't think anyway) I wouldn't recommend it unless the looks of it outweights the potential for a messy diaster.
