Oneida American Harmony 20-Piece Set, Service for 4

I love the original American Harmony flatware. I purchased two 24 pc. sets from a department store a decade ago (they used to come with 4 extra spoons), and I purchased a 53 pc. set (service for 6 on special with free 24 pc. set, 77 pieces total) here at Amazon a few years later. But those who have pieces from that far back and order replacement pieces now are noticing the quality is no longer as good. Most noticeably, the knives are no longer thick, heavy, and rounded, but are now flat and lightweight. Some have also noticed the newer pieces stain more easily and become discolored.

Oneida has admitted that this flatware is "made in a different country" now. Oneida's last US plant closed in 2005.

I personally consider it dishonest business practice for Oneida to continue manufacturing the variants under the original model name. The honest thing to do would be to call these American Harmony II or New American Harmony, if not something entirely different.

My free 24 pc. set that I got with the 53 pc. set from Amazon is still in the box, # 2905024C. I haven't needed to open it because the others are still in fabulous condition. A few teaspoons have mysteriously disappeared, but thankfully the original 24 pc. sets came with "4 extra teaspoons".

I bought two sets of this pattern in a department store, because I fell in love with the weight and heaviness of the knife. I think the other pieces are very good looking as well. The sets stood up well to once or twice a day washing in my dishwasher. The only complaint I have: when I ordered individual replacement pieces through Oneida online, they turned yellowish over time. However, original pieces still look great.

I purchased my first set 7 years ago. After looking at all my options still chose this pattern. No, I am not replacing my first set, is is still shiny and we (family of eight, two dishwasher fulls a day) haven't bent or damaged one piece yet. We are adding to our collection. I give it 5 stars for all the reasons mentioned above and some I didn't like it's versatilty when it comes to pairing it with dinnerware. My only complaint is I can not find matching iced tea spoons or matching steak knives like some sets have.

I bought a set of Oneida for my mother recently for every day use, and we've found it to be good quality, comfortable to use and attractive. Now that I'm setting up my own apartment, I chose the "American Harmony" for it's affordable elegance. If you're looking to set the table for a dinner party, but don't want to break out (or don't have) sterling silver, I think this is a lovely choice.

I have been using Oneida "Harmony" as our everyday stainless for many years. I decided to order an extra set for extras when the grandkids are here. The set was very nice except for the knives. Our old set had very think handles. The new ones were almost flat. Quality seems to be going downhill these days.

I'm very pleased with these pieces. This is my 1st set of matching flatware-lol! It's so pretty and heavy. My son loves how shiny it is.

I've had my set for 12 years now and they still look GREAT. Wonderfully thick and heavy but not too heavy for everyday use. You don't have to worry,"will the spoon bend" if your dishing out frozen ice cream, it won't. And they are beautiful enough for entertaining too. I've always been proud to set the table with these when company comes over. They look wonderful.

I have had the Oneida American Harmony Flatware for probably, 10 years! I have purchased 3 sets and am purchasing YET another, NOT because they don't hold up, but because I have children who take different pieces all over with them & pieces get lost. So I need to replenish them once in a while! I love the style of the handles, the craftsmanship & durability and the way they come out of the dishwasher. I only wish I could get long handled spoons to match!

Exactly what I wanted--has good weight, very shiny, cleans well. And, I never expected to be saying this!!, but, the utensils are not too big!!! I purchased a stainless set with palm trees design on the handles--I love them; very nice looking, a dull finish, good weight, but every piece is soooo big . . . the 'teaspoons' are more like the 'tablespoons' of most sets!! and they are longer. It's like they were made for a giant's hands. I am using both sets & am very happy. Oh, the only drawback with the American Harmony that I noticed is the pretty salad forks' tines are rather thick and don't pick up salad greens well, or anything delicate. Just a warning! But the set is very pretty and a great value!! I would buy again.

The flatware was great. We have had this flatware for several years, and I was not even sure I could get more pieces. The only thing that bothered me was that the knives were thinner than the ones I had. All of the other pieces were exactly the same. Great price for a great product.
