5.0 out of 5 stars Sturdy, clean design
I have owned this pattern for several years. Unless they've changed the materials or manufacturing, I happen to think the construction is quite sturdy. More so than some of the more "flowery" flatware patterns. This is NOT stamped cafeteria quality flatware. It feels substanial and weathers the dishwasher well. My set was USA made.

3.0 out of 5 stars Too lightweight
I loved the design of this flatware, but I was very disappointed with the "feel" of it. I was looking for a simple design with a brushed metal look, and this seemed to match my criteria. It definitely has a lot of eye appeal. But I was shocked by how flimsy the pieces feel, they are much too light in weight. This flatware set did not meet my expectations...

But if appearance is more important than the weight of flatware to you, this is a great looking set.

4.0 out of 5 stars This turned out to be exactly what I thought it would be., March 9, 2005

The pieces are not the heaviest out there, but I didn't think that they would be at this price. They are certainly not light. The pieces are the size I expected them to be also. The photograph captures the pieces well.

The one thing I wasn't 100% sure of from the description was if they had a brushed finish. The handles do, and the rest is shiny. They look very nice, very simple, and very sturdy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Looking for Name of This Style for Years, August 6, 2005
This review is from: Oneida Colonial Boston 53-Piece Stainless Steel Flatware Set, Service for 8 (Kitchen)
I have several pieces of this flatware style left but have been looking for a complete set for years. Could never find the name of the style or who made it until I found it here on Amazon. I really like this flatware style because the spoons actually have depth. They are not shallow. The case knives are easy to control and it does not hurt the index finger to apply pressure because the handle is slightly wide and rounded rectangular. Glad I found it again after looking for so long.

I have to come down on the 'substantial' side of this question. I just received my service for 8, and have to say that I love it. It's substantial in weight, elegant in it's simple lines and washes easily.

I heartily recommend Oneida's Colonial Boston line of stainless Flatwear!

1.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as it used to be!, October 22, 2004
This review is from: Oneida Colonial Boston 53-Piece Stainless Steel Flatware Set, Service for 8 (Kitchen)
I bought service for 12 of this flatware. I remember my sister having this and the pieces were nicely weighted. The set that I received is way too light, and the utensils are too small. The tablespoons look like teaspoons and they will definitely not pass the Ice cream test. It seems like a bargain, but it's worth it to spend a little more on 18/10-you live with it everyday!

Not too heavy but substantial enough, the soup spoons are not too big, little children cope with them, simple and durable. Just great. I keep the Christofle in the cupboard and even use them when I have guests.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fond memories of this pattern, February 20, 2004

These are the utensils I grew up with... and I inherited an almost complete set from my parents when I moved out a couple years ago. My parents just keep buying more and more place settings to replace the inevitable lost or thrown away utensil, and I doubt they will ever buy something different as long as oneida is making them. They clean easily in the dishwasher or in the sink. They are very hefty and the large soup spoons even hold up to scooping of the most stubborn ice cream. I just ordered a set of the "sand dune" pattern only because I need a change of pace. I'll keep these around as backups to pass on to my kids.

I am extremely pleased with my new flatware. It is very elegant and the pieces are very sturdy. I would highly recommend this product. I still have the original oneida flatware that I received from my wedding shower 32 years ago.

4.0 out of 5 stars pleasant setting, January 5, 2007

This style flatware provides a simple elegance when entertaining, or as attractive day to day serviceware. They have a nice weight to them, balanced handling and are comfortable to use. They are prone to spotting a bit after going through the dishwasher. It simply reguires a soft rubbing with a dish towel to bring them back to their original sheen when setting them out for guests to use. Manufacturer enclosed directions were handy to instruct how to properly care for this flatware. Overall a satisfying purchase.
