4.0 out of 5 stars Lovely, but really should be hand washed
I really like this pattern. I have some pieces that are older than others. Over time, the have gotten off-color a bit because of the dishwasher. I understand that the manufacturer recommends hand-washing, but in 2007 they've got to be kidding. I machine wash these and am very happy with them.

1.0 out of 5 stars Big disappointment. 18/10 made in USA, heirloom collection
Oneida got the 18/10 right and the serving pieces are beautiful. Perhaps the larger size of the serving pieces allowed them more room to embelish the pattern more fully. Their large serving pieces earn five stars for a stainless pattern.

1.0 out of 5 stars Big disappointment. 18/10 made in USA, heirloom collection, August 20, 2009
This review is from: Oneida Michelangelo 5-Piece Place Setting, Service for 1 (Kitchen)
Oneida got the 18/10 right and the serving pieces are beautiful. Perhaps the larger size of the serving pieces allowed them more room to embelish the pattern more fully. Their large serving pieces earn five stars for a stainless pattern.

However, the 5 piece place settings are a HUGE disappointment. They do not have a nice hand feel to them. They are not well balanced and they look "cheap." The Michelangelo stainless pattern is squished up and lacks depth due to the smaller scale.

The forks and spoons are not in the Continental size. This is okay, but they just are NOT comfortable in the hand and they lack the elegance of a well made set. Perhaps Continental sizing for the place settings would have allowed a better presentation of the pattern design. The quality of the workmanship is fine, the pattern detail on the five piece place settings is flawed. This is a design issue.

The discontinued STERLING Michelangelo pattern is awesome! This stainless version is a sad attempt at capturing the beauty of the sterling.

If you love this pattern, save up for the sterling version--well worth the difference in price. Watch on ebay as it is discontinued. Yes, it is okay to use sterling everyday. Use makes sterling even more beautiful. You are worth it!

I do appreciate Oneida keeping jobs in the USA and had hoped to support American workers. However, Oneida is beginning to outsource flatware manufacturing. I am willing to pay more for quality items made in the USA. But, this set just doesn't make the grade.

If I were looking at this place setting for the first time I might like it. However comparing it with my stainless steel set purchased in the 1970's, I am slightly disappointed. The length is the same, but the balance of the spoon is not quite right. The look of the new setting is not as nice as the original, as it lacks the same quality of detail. I am obliged to keep the new setting because I need a replacement, but I must say that the Oneida company should have the same pride in their product now as they did then.

5.0 out of 5 stars ELEGANT AND ORNATE, December 31, 2009
This review is from: Oneida Michelangelo 5-Piece Place Setting, Service for 1 (Kitchen)
Michelangelo is one of my favorite stainless flatware patterns. I have owned 8 place settings plus serving pieces of this pattern for many, many years. The pattern is elegant and ornate so I do not use it everyday. I don't hand wash and the pieces are as lovely as when I first purchased them. I plan to order 4 more place settings to accomodate larger dining groups.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Flatware!!!!!!! Ignore any reviews by BAM, September 26, 2010
This review is from: Oneida Michelangelo 5-Piece Place Setting, Service for 1 (Kitchen)
This is excellent flatware. It is unfortunate that there are people (critics) like BAM that place bad reviews and rate items unfairly. BAM states that the flatware is not as large as the pure silverware and is correct, but who cares. It is large enough for the price difference and excellent quality. The entire point is to NOT have to pay as much money with stainless steel compared to pure silver. AND..., who really wants to eat off silver and upkeep silver? Not me. Apparently BAM only likes eating off of silver and that is fine, but do not downgrade the stainless steel version because it is smaller. BAM did not take any consideration with the HUGE cost savings by going with steel over silver. And..., the steel flatware is VERY comfortable to hold unlike what BAM states. Completely NOT true. Very nice to hold .

I have had the newer steel version for years, always using the dishwasher and they look brand new. I have washed them at least twice a week for years now and they are perfect. The quality is superb and so is the detail compared to 99% of steel flatware. So for the price, the set is absolutely superb with great detail. Also, the flatware is very strong and thick. Not going to bend over time, even if you cheat and scoop ice-cream with a place spoon. You will NOT be disappointed. Disregard any bad reviews unless you are a giant that needs huge flatware or if you insist on only silver. Otherwise..., the set is excellent!!!
