Amazon SO THOROUGHLY solved this problem that I have NO problem at all with this purchase. I hereby rescind my prior rating. I used to think that the mail order company out of Freeport Maine had the BEST CUSTOMER SERVICE in the world. Now, I know hands down that Amazon is absolutely THE BEST. The pan was of excellent weight and if it had been shipped with a lid it would have been exactly what I was looking for. Thanks AMAZON. skybird564

We just ordered one of these, noticing that the product description says it includes a glass lid.
Oh contraire! After this item is added to the shopping cart it appears as an "open" sauce pan. No lid. Well, that wasn't very nice. And it's actually listed for $2.00 less than what we paid. I docked 2 stars simply because a lidless pan is just plain awkward. But it has a nice thick solid aluminum base that measures 5.5" (inches) diameter. I thought I'd chance it that the lid for the 2 Qt Oneida pan ordered at the same time might fit, just in case the description was off. But the other lid doesn't fit either. I ordered these pans because the stainless 2 Qt. which we have has got a ridiculously small aluminum disk on the bottom, and we just replaced our electric range with a ceramic topped unit last year. The directions (to avoid fracturing the ceramic top) require the maximum coverage of the glass surface that may be possible. These Oneida 1 Qt and 2 Qt do at least cover 80% of the element, and now I won't be stressing about the cook top accidentally cracking from un-balanced heat transfer. If you've ever had an inexpensive pan warp, you can understand my worries about a ruptured cook top. Before we replaced the old range I had used a number of Le Creuset porcelain coated cast iron utensils. I see they're worth a mint. But I don't use mine on the glass top. And several of them need repairs to the chipped porcelain. The price of this 1 Qt open sauce pan is still a good value even without a lid. |
