This is a very nice flatware set - it has service for 8 (40 pieces) plus 5 extra serving pieces to finish the set. Each piece comes in an individual plastic bag to prevent scratching or damage during transit/storage.

If you are a newlywed and trying to keep your costs down while you buy a few things for a kitchen, you can get away with some cheaper items for a couple of years. But for long-term use, it's nice to know that the flatware you own will actually last and stay nice looking. And, if you are looking for a gift, you probably know that Oneida is nice stuff.

You can tell I'm a fan of Oneida ... but that's because I couldn't afford the nice stuff when I first got married, so I had to deal with a bit of "rust" on my cheap stuff. This particular set has held up well and with the Oneida brand, I can trust that it will continue to do so.

Edited to remove incorrect information - Set is 18/0, not 18/10 as Amazon claims. As Maureen mentions in HER comment, the Oneida Web site does list this as 18/0. I am always grateful to hear when I have given incorrect information, because it gives me a chance to correct it.

Since I purchased mine awhile back, I not only reviewed the Oneida site, but I also found a magnet and checked. This set is magnetic. Thanks Maureen, for your research and comment!

I received a set of Oneida flatware as a wedding gift in 1970. The pattern looks a lot like this set. I have used the flatware everyday since 1970 and they still look great whether I'm eating a bowl of cereal or setting a formal dinner table.

For probably close to 20 years I have used Oneida's True Rose for my everyday flatware. For about the past 5 years I have not been able to find this pattern at reasonable prices.

This matches my old set with the only difference being the knife -- which has a much thinner handle and a better cutting edge. (I actually like the new knife much better).

You can verify at the manufacturer's website that this is NOT 18/10 - but I can confirm that it is outstanding flatware for everyday use. I bought a 20 piece set (service for four) and ended up loving it so much, I purchased the 45 piece set direct from Oneida at a very good price (8 place settings, plus serveware). Just outstanding quality fit and finish. Be aware that this particular design is lighter and slimmer than some, but it is NOT flimsy and will not bend during normal usage (tablespoon passes the icecream test).
