Great protection from the sun
on October 2, 2011
With pretty sensitive skin, I needed better protection from the sun. All I had were baseball caps and those basically only shade your eyes, but don't really give you any protection at all. Plus my head would always get hot when I'm wearing a cap. The lifeguard hat is a cool option. It looks good, not at all like those stereotypical grandpa beach hats. This is a very cool looking hat and perfect for a day at the beach or whenever you're sitting out in the sun. It provides great coverage because of its size (it's about 17" from side to side), so your entire face and neck will be completely shaded. The underside of the hat is a black cloth, which I think is supposed to prevent glare. And while using it, I have a pretty glare-free experience, so I guess it works. Though I don't know how much glare I'd be getting without the black. Either way, I like it. The drawstring is a nice touch, too, in case you get caught in a windy day.
Like anything made of straw, durability isn't going to be its strong suit. The straw, particularly at the top of the hat, has cracked a bit, though it's still very usable. All the straw on the brim is perfectly intact, though. If and when the hat does wear out, I'll definitely be buying another one of these.
