Biography

Barry Lynn is from Lurgan, co. Armagh, Northern Ireland. He started sending his future label "drill'n'bass" demos back in 2002-ish but they soon started to have a big uk garage/2-step influence. After a release on Hotflush, Planet Mu released his debut album Oneiric and the Tauhid ep both of which are the toast of the scene.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dubstep Masterpiece From Planet-Mu, June 23, 2006
This review is from: Oneiric (Audio CD)
Having been a big fan of Mike Paradinas' label Planet-Mu for years, it's always nice to hear an up and cummer in the electronic scene. This album reminds me of the techniques used by a lot of IDM luminaries, such as Aphex Twin, Squarepusher, and Luke Vibert to name a few. The difference here is the entry into an entirely new subgenre; whereas drum'n'bass speed up breakbeats for effect, dubstep relatively slows them down to a crawl using time-stretching. Definitely someone to keep an eye on.

5.0 out of 5 stars classic dubstep, May 15, 2007
This review is from: Oneiric (Audio CD)
This may be my favorite CD I've purchased in the last year.

I'm really feeling the beat programming (huge deep dark bass groove, w/lots of intricate jazzy cymbals) and textures (a unique real-time knob-tweaking IDM dubbing of the mix).

5.0 out of 5 stars Blip-Hop Heaven!!!, February 12, 2007
This review is from: Oneiric (Audio CD)
Excellent album! I've been experimenting and looking for some new sounds. I recently purchased "Body Riddle" by Clark which was really good but I must admit it took some time to grow on me. I stumbled upon this album while browsing the Planet-Mu website looking for new Mu-Ziq material. Some really nice grooves here, some robotic, pop-lockish stuff, no real skippable tracks. Standout tracks in my opinion are Rikta, Silver Birch Solstice, and Hyloz. Definitely worth the money. I'll be looking forward to future releases from Boxcutter. Check it out.
