I was left in a Deep Peace,
By Advaita One (Oklahoma City, OK USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Oneness (Paperback)
This book is a beautiful inquiry into 'Who am I?' with direct pointers at Transcendental Truth.
Questions are asked from many angles and we look at a simple pointing to the experience of reality, without the filter of the mind, to that which is common to all of us, that which the mind has overlooked. You drop the suffering of the separate ego by seeing your true nature as one with all beingness. You investigate the claims, beliefs and assumptions that the mind has told you. Upon examination of your beliefs, you see them effortlessly fall away, as those concepts are seen to be false. I was left in a deep peace, "Once the conceptual 'I' is dropped by the mind as a valid center, then the door swings open to what is being pointed to, the emptiness that is full." You see "It is all just appearance within the source and the source is what you are." This book provides a simple, in-depth analysis of self inquiry, with profound insights, stated with a wry wit and an unwavering pointing at Presence/Awareness as the Oneness that we are.

the dissolution of the seeker can happen ...,
By Charlie Hayes "Charlie Hayes" (Reno, NV, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Oneness (Paperback)
There are simply very few teachings that assert the non-existence of a separate 'person'. Very few remain in my space after 32 years of searching for that which would fill the bottomless pit in the heart, sitting with endless books/teachers/gurus/websites, and traveling around the globe seeking never finding...
NOW: Reading this book, I am no longer sitting at the feet of any guru NOW: reading this book seems to reveal with no effort that what I Am is the guru ... what book? :-) This is NOT a book for the mind, not a book for the heart .. it can be, when taken in and "grokked in fullnes," a compassion beyond the knowing of it ... a destroyer of all that appears to suffer, leaving only it that IS ... not-suffering-not-wanting not a single thing what is known is not it what is not known is not it what book!? "Oneness" "the destination you never left"... "You may have been searching for self-realization, enlightenment, the Buddha Mind, God, or some other goal implying the same thing. You may have been searching for many years; or you may just be getting started on a search. Whether you have been traveling a path for a while, or just taking the first step, makes no difference. This book invites you to take a look at the space that has been overlooked, to see what is obvious, and to bring that search to an end... right now." The seeing here now is ... "John Greven" stands outside all that is, and thereby offers a unique approach, which fits NO such "category" as "neo" or "traditional" Advaita. Clearly written by NO ONE... Oneness, just That. And That is That. Over and out... with thanks to my dear friend (and now neighbor in Enid, Oklahoma) John Greven - Charlie Hayes, "author" of No Way Out: The Gift Of Absolute Freedom

oneness,

This review is from: Oneness (Paperback)
John Greven has done a good job in making the message simple. You are what you seek. There is nothing to attain. This book gives the basic understanding of oneness (non duality). It explains clearly the oneness and it has succeeded in unraveling the lies that we are never the body, nor the thoughts nor are we in the body. What you are has apparently becomes what you think you are. I love this book and I have made this book my travelling companion. I shall never leave home without it.

Great Book,

I highly recommend this book for those paradoxically seeking the end of seeking. What stunned me most about this book was not the clarity and directness of the pointers, which are unmistakable, but rather the humility that wrote it.
This book is never preachy. There is never the sense that it is "telling" you anything, for example, that you have no choice, or that it's all One, or that you are not a separate self. There is no fundamentalism in this book. It invites you to have a look for yourself. John never gets lost in the dogma of nonduality, trying to convince everyone that he is nonexistent or that he is not a teacher. He doesn't have to say those things. His absence is felt in the words and the space in which they appear. In his absence is love and humility. I judge good nondual teachings these days, not just by the clarity of the language, but more by the humility of the author. Humility and love are naturally left when the separate self sense is seen through. Probably the most beautiful thing about this book, to me, is the way it deconstructs its own teaching. It invites you to see that your concepts are false, but it doesn't just replace those with new concepts. So "Oneness" and "awareness" do not feel like new ideas to buy into. When a teaching deconstructs even its own words, like this, it leaves you with nothing. That nothing is appearing as everything. Love is meeting itself everywhere. Thanks John! I read this book after reading Consciousness Is All. In comparison it is short and concise, making for a quick read. I find it to be an eye opener and very helpful in my quest for pure awareness. If you want to get to the center of it all start here.

Although it this a small book, it is not lacking.
There are no unnecessary stories or a lot of examples to get through, just simple and straight writing on the subject. If you're new to non-duality/Advaita, this is THE place to start. If you've been around it awhile, this is still an enjoyable, easy to understand book. A book of this type doesn't have to be long to answer the quesitons that arise, the heart just needs to be open, and if you're ripe as they say, the understanding can take place in an instant.

Nonduality for the Seeker,

This review is from: Oneness (Paperback)
This little book speaks to those whose interest in spirituality is based on an intellectual curiosity that has never been quenched. It may also be quite useful to other seekers who have never stopped to look behind assumptions that are rarely questioned. Written in an informal, non-technical style, it nontheless achieves an invaluable task: to provide the reader with a series of simple questions to ponder demonstrating the illusory nature of personal identity and ego based thought, the primacy of presence/ awareness, and the fallacy of 'progress' on a spiritual path (Who is making this 'progress'?) If you have tried with difficulty to comprehend such classics of Advaita phlosophy as Nisargadatta's "I Am That" or Ramesh Balsekar's translation and commentary "A Duet of One:The Ashtavakra Gita" , "Oneness" can be the key to a breakthrough. It can be read, if not absorbed, in a single sitting.

As organizer of the Santa Monica Eckhart Tolle meetup, as well as currently working on my own spiritual book called, "Enlightenment on Demand," I consider it my job to read, listen to, and watch everything I can get my hands on on enlightenment and non-duality.
Up until now, Gary Crowley's "From Here to Here" had been the best book I've come across that logically dismantles the illusion of a separate self. However, he now has competition! This short 89 page book by John Greven (who I had never heard of before finding it here on Amazon) is simply brilliant. Like Gary's book, John logically and systematically helps you see the truth of who you really are. Both authors are like surgeons who carefully cut away all that is not you. What you are left with is... :). Here is a quote from the book: "If there is something that is aware of the body, than that something must not be the body. Isn't it clear that the body appears to something? That the thoughts of the body appear to somethng? The body is objective to what you truly are!" If you are a huge Eckhart fan as many of us are, I think you will find that after reading this book, Tolle's insights will be even more meaningful to you as they will resonant even more deeply. Atleast that was the case with this being! Love and Serenity, Michael Jeffreys Author, Success Secrets of the Motivational Superstars

The book does not have alot of pages. Don't be deceived by that. The author get's to the point of non-duality immediately, without fancy words and stories. He encourages the reader to ask himself some questions about ones own false self. The 'me' is just a concept. There is only awareness. I recommend this book to all the seekers out there. This will end the search for anything that you are searching for. If you are on a spiritual path, this book will definitely break your bubble.

only one thing to be said,
By
This review is from: Oneness (Paperback)
I was pleased to see this book by an author from my home state of Oklahoma. It is as good as one could hope it might be. Oneness is a good title because there is truly only one thing to be said- that we can rest our awareness in the space of awareness which is the same in everyone. That space is without the needs or wants that drive us crazy with desire. All the contortions of spiritual discipline occurs because we either can't accept or ignore this simple truth.
