5.0 out of 5 stars A SANTANA album with only 6 reviews. Splendid album.
It's really the best of show. I prefer it over the other 2 SANTANA albums somewhat similar to this, Love Devotion Surrender and Illuminations. There's a purity and calm in this one that's difficult to find on any other album, even a SANTANA one. Somehow this album captures something that is beyond the usual Mexican/San Francisco/rock/Mexican music flavored music that...

2.0 out of 5 stars Minor Effort
Oneness is a minor effort by the great Carlos Santana. The songs seem to be cut off very quickly as the extended solos just come in. Knowing Santana is a perfectionist makes me think that this was probably for the best. The art work and surrounding message are very spiritual, a little cultish looking back from our perspective and perhaps a little baffleing if you're not...

It's really the best of show. I prefer it over the other 2 SANTANA albums somewhat similar to this, Love Devotion Surrender and Illuminations. There's a purity and calm in this one that's difficult to find on any other album, even a SANTANA one. Somehow this album captures something that is beyond the usual Mexican/San Francisco/rock/Mexican music flavored music that SANTANA is famous for. Instead it is more a musical spiritual journey yet completely on the money, not, as I mentioned, sorta odd like the other two somewhat similar SANTANA albums.

This is more of a jazz/spiritual music/easy on the Eastern music/gentle SANTANA thing that totally works. chrisbct@hotmail.com

5.0 out of 5 stars Close encounter of East and West - When music fascinates us., July 5, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Oneness: Silver Dreams Golden Reality (Audio CD)
In this wild world of music, it's been each day more difficult to find one true work that comes from the heart - and not from the pocket $$$ !!! One of them is this Santana's Oneness Silver Dreams-Gold Reality.

If music can be the missed chain between East & West countries, the best sample this can be possible is this work where sensibility and sentiment were put togheter to conduct us to a perfect world of love, devotion and surrender.

Try it as I did !!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Jazz/Rock Fusion era Santana! Excellent!, April 11, 2002

The actual name of this release actually IS Oneness: Silver Dreams Golden Reality. The previous reviewer has this incorrect. There is a track on the disc called Silver Dreams Golden Smiles, but that is not the name of the disc. I've got this on vinyl, and it is hypnotic. It falls into the category of the Illuminations disc, with Alice Coltrane. Alice is not on this particular disc, but the spirit is there. There are some great heavyweights on this, however. This is an essential for Carlos fans.

5.0 out of 5 stars A perfect fit among his best recordings, February 25, 2007

Released in 1979, Onesess is Carlos Santana's first solo album.
Although CS was not sure which musical style to follow; Fusion Jazz which he really loved, heavily inspired by John McLaughlin; His great basic Latin Rock sound; or the new Pop Rock trend. Onesess came up as a combination of all three styles reflecting the puzzled period; this artist was living in; yet a great album, perfectly picturing what a great musician and guitarist Carlos Santana was.
This album fits perfectly among his best recordings, making it highly recommended to any old Santana fan, or to any Fusion Latin Rock music lover.
Some Other highly recommended CD titles for this great artist:
1. Santana
2. Abraxas
3. Santana III
4. Love Devotion and Surrender
5. Carlos Santana and Buddy Miles
6. Caravanserai
7. Welcome
8. The swing of Delight

5.0 out of 5 stars Oneness - Santana at his best, August 25, 2006
This review is from: Oneness: Silver Dreams Golden Reality (Audio CD)
Released in Australia on vinyl, but never on CD, this has to be one of the best Santana Albums ever. I think that this album was a special project for Calos and he put his heart and soul into the performance. A collection of eclectic tracks culminating in the Oneness track itsself. The way the guitar work ebs and flows is a special delight, especially when listening through high quality headphones. A must for any Santana fan!

This review is from: Oneness: Silver Dreams Golden Reality (Audio CD)
I had not heard this album since buying it [on vinyl] from a junk shop for 50pence [yes true!!] some ooh..20 years ago...my oh my....understandable sentiment aside, on it went and boy oh boy..there it was again..beautifulness, calm, peace, virtuosity..just how I had remembered it...so it wasn't just a silver dream? No, it was golden reality all over again...fabulous.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Hidden Treasure, March 20, 2007
This review is from: Oneness: Silver Dreams Golden Reality (Audio CD)
I had come across this album on lp in the Bargin Bin back around 1981 and, taking a chance, found it to be a pleasant surprise. I had not known of its release a few years earlier and found the music to be a bit different from earlier Santana releases. But it was a music which would grow upon a listener with each spin on the turn table. Although credited to Devaip Carlos Santana, it features many of his regular band musicians at the time. The cuts don't seem to have as much percussion as earlier Santana albums, but Carlos Santana's guitar, Tom Coster's keyboards and Greg Walker's vocals provide audio verification that it is a Santana endeavor. As mentioned by other reviewers, it is an excursion into jazz, but it is pure Santana nonetheless and it doesn't disappoint. Even Sri Chinmoy's short spoken poems are a good fit into the overall experience and appear to aid in the flow of the music without causing disruption.

I don't think you'll find any of the songs from Oneness on any of the Santana compilation albums and, this fact, coupled with lasting memories of this album finally convinced me to seek out the cd and acquire a new copy.

I'm not into Eastern Religions so I just ignore abut the first 20 seconds of this one. Other than that, what else can I say that hasn't already been said about this recording. I'm just blown away by this fantastic recording. It's just mesmerizing. A must have for all Santana fans.

5.0 out of 5 stars .999 fine Santana, July 22, 2010
This review is from: Oneness: Silver Dreams Golden Reality (Audio CD)
Carlos is, bar none, my favorite musician, and Oneness ranks among his finest albums. It will take you on a spiritual journey. It combines the best of his jazz-fusion Devadip period with the face-melting leads, piercing sustains and driving Latin beats of his earlier albums.

Why do I call it ".999 fine"? Because of the one blemish marring an otherwise perfect album: "Silver Dreams and Golden Smiles". This atrocious piece with its shooby-doo vocals, amateurish slides onto key, and trite rhymes completely shatters any mystical momentum the listener might have attained up to that point. What Were They Thinking?

In my vinyl days I seriously considered taking a nail and gouging it across the track so that the needle would immediately jump past it. I bet the nail would have actually been less jarring. Ah well, this is the digital era, and it's relatively easy to re-master your own CDs. So I did. Voila, no more Golden Smiles for me! Nirvana here I come.
