I am amazed at how little I can take off and be accurate about it with this jig. I can take off a few MIRCRONS each pass if I like from left to right and when I've got it continuous all the way across I've got a properly dressed grinding stone and I only took off what I had to in order to get there! I love this system.

The Wolverine system is terrific for grinding turning tools, whether you are grinding a straight edge on a roughing gouge or a fingernail profile on a bowl gouge. The dressing attachment helps ensure that you have a clean grinding surface to work with. Other dressing systems can do that as well. What I think makes this device exceptional is that is ensures that the face of the grinding wheel will be perfectly perpendicular to the axis of the tool, so that grinds will be symmetrical and exactly repeatable.

Dressing a wheel can create a lot of flying grit; it's probably a good idea to wear a dust mask (I ended up with a mouthful of grit the first time). I have waxed the arms of all the Wolverine attachments to help them slide more smoothly.

This jig requires the use of the Oneway Wolverine grinding base system, which for my 6" grinder required a separate platform for the base and a raised platform which brought my grinder up by 1". So this is not a stand-alone solution unless you need to flatten your grinding wheels on one side of a grinder and are willing to go through the expense and set-up time of putting together your own platform for a single base. The initial base fit must have an even alignment with the grinding wheel, so that the end of the base is even with the farthest out portion of the grinding wheel. This ensures proper alignment of the jig system to the wheel for this and any other Wolverine jig platforms.

Installation is simple with the base installed: put the dressing attachment into the base, make sure the swing arm with the diamond point is just above the surface of the wheel after hand spinning it and that you can get actual contact by using the screw at the bottom which shifts the arm out and pivots the diamond point closer to the wheel. Shift the arm back and forth so the diamond goes across the wheel.

The objective is tiny sparks that you can barely see when contact is made and that this should be even across the entire width of the wheel during its full rotation cycle. This is done below the pivot point to ensure that arm gets full contact on the pivot, and shifting the dressing point slowly back and forth until you no longer see any sparks. You may want to use a marker or other device to find high spots on your wheel face before dressing it, so that you can be assured that removal of high spots has been accomplished. This jig is not made for dressing the side of the wheel.

I find that is almost impossible to sharpen wood turning tools without this wheel dressing tools. I have all of the other Wolverine sharpening attachments. I purchased the dressing tool last, it should have been first.

Works as advertised, but be sure to mount your wolverine system on the edge of the table or this dressing tool will not work.

I mounted my Wolverine sharpening kit with my brand new slow speed grinder, and immediately noticed how out of round the wheels were, and they needed some serious attention before I could safely use the grinder. This tool is a bit pricy in comparison to a typical T type wheel dressing tool, but if you are not a seasoned user of a dressing tool (which I am not) this is what you need. It’s pretty easy to use, and when you are done the wheels are true and square to the sharpening guides. To say it is well made is an understatement.

Worked like a charm truing up my grinder wheels. An essential part of the Wolverine sharpening system and well worth the investment.

I called one way and asked for tech. support thinking there may be a part missing on the adjustment screw. The response was very negative towards me of saying there's nothing wrong with it. I found that the end of the screw is not shaped to turn equally in the 360 degree turn. You could modify this tool as they did with the modification on the vari'grind attachment by placing a bearing or a smoother surface on the end of the bolt. This would help stop the wobble. Also, the adjustment screw is a little loose in the threads adding to the exactness that this equipment should be. It is a tool that is needed and works well as it is designed. To help keep the adjustment from vibrating in or out while using it I placed some plumbing tape around the threads and that helps secure the adjustment screw so it could stay in place.
