The way it works, you can see in the photo the swirls at the bottom of half of the onion saver. This collects the moisture so that the onion (partially sliced of course) stays fresh. I have tried these "savers" for tomatoes and lemons as well, and they always seem to work very well. And they're quite attractive.

I do find that they do best on about the second shelf of the refrigerator, and putting them in the crisper is not so good. They just don't need it.

One reviewer complained about the odor. I find that, yes, if I put the saver up close and smell it, I can smell an onion odor. But I don't find it so strong that it permeates my refrigerator or sniff a noticeable odor when I open the fridge door.

They also clean well in the top portion of the dishwasher.

I'm very satisfied. It means no more wilted, tanned onion only meant for the trash bin after being refrigerated only a few days. And as I love onions, this is a real boon for my kitchen.

As someone who finds herself in the kitchen every third or fourth blue moon, foods have a way of getting out of control in my refrigerator. An onion sliced a mere week ago will inevitably develop delusions of grandeur and invade the neighboring bag of espresso beans. To compound the problem, I don't usually buy whole onions; I buy the ready-sliced type in the little plastic container (hey, life is short...an onion's an onion). Prêt-à-porter onions reek after 24 hours. I bought this little onion holder because I thought it looked pretty...and much to my amazement, it works. Even pre-sliced guys will keep for about ten days before the fumes become noticeable. The lid fits securely, odors are contained, the colors are adorable (mine is purple). A charming little gizmo, no matter how you slice it.

Actually does work as long as onion is inside and onion saver closed.
I have never had any problems. It is really easy to use.

This little item is Great! Received as a gift and couldn't believe it would actually contain a strong onion odor but it DID! I keep the container in the hydrator-veggie drawer with other foods and none of the other items are contaminated by the onion odor and you cannot smell it when you open the refrigerator. The container does not retain the onion odor either like Tupperware and other plastic containers will. Once the whole or cut onion is placed in this saver - you will not smell it until you open it again. Seems to keep the product viable longer too!

I love to by those really large vidalia onions but i hate only using a small amount of it for just a meal for 2! I love this because I can buy those big onions and save the part i don't use for the next dinner.

I purchased one of these at a Market because my daughter thought it was a toy. I brought it home and realized what it was, so I washed it and put it in the cabinet. OMG!!! I use it all the time! I hate wasting sandwich bags plus the other half of the onion that gets slimy in the bag, so this was a great find. Also, because it is a quick find in the fridge... I ACTUALLY USE THE OTHER HALF OF THE ONION! I am buying several as stocking stuffers for the cooks in my family. :) -Dee

A bit bigger than I expected but if you tend to buy bigger vegetables, it should fit for you. I only feed 2 so I buy smaller.

Has notches on the bottom to keep the vegetable off the floor of the container, keep it fresh.

The lid has a twist-lock mechanism so it locks the air in/out.

Overall, for the price, a great buy!

I bought the tomato one as well and I will be keeping both.

The onion keeper is surprisingly large and holds a pretty good size onion. I love that the smell is contained in the keeper and that the onion is kept pretty fresh. I don't have to keep a cut-up onion in a baggie rolling around at the bottom of the fridge veggie bin. I can set the keeper on any shelf of the fridge and can easily spot it. I keep the onion and bell pepper keepers together on one shelf and I don't have to rummage the veggie bin to find my cut-up veggies any more! The lid is tricky to line up but a moment's patience will get it smoothly closed. Truly enormous onions will not fit the keeper so I shop for only the onion sizes that fit it.

I bought this for my mom cause she always has an onion in the fridge. Usually she stores her onions in a zippy bag & when she does that, the whole fridge smells of onion. She has used this a few times & it has always kept the odor out of the fridge. I think this is a great product & do recommend it.

To the person who said this is a piece of junk- You dont know what your talking about. It is not junk. If you like your fridge smelling of onion go right ahead & use your zippy bag.
