Product Description

The Onkyo BD-SP807 provides a robust and versatile playback solution for Blu-ray, DVD, CD, and DivX HD-encoded discs. With the BD-SP807, the focus is on build quality. Harmful vibrations are minimized thanks to the highly rigid chassis construction and centermounted drive mechanism. An Ethernet port enables interactive Profile 2.0 BD-Live features, such as picture-in-picture, while an SD card slot lets you play back downloaded web content or stills and video from a digital camera. Stellar high-def video with NSV processing is accompanied by advanced 1080p upconversion and scaling of standard-def video. In HDMI Source Direct mode, the player can output the video signal in its native resolution, for processing on your A/V receiver. On the audio side, meanwhile, the BD-SP807 handles the studio-master quality of Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio Essential. With all this and more, the BD-SP807 is well set to integrate with today's most advanced home entertainment systems.

While a clone of the Funai based Denon 2010, AND Marantz 7004 AND 7005, it does offer a Higher Quality Video Processor DAC at 297mhz/12 bit, and NSV. But it does not offer Silicon Optix Reon or Realta Chip or the Anchor Bay VRS as does the Denon. At present it is Highly Discounted, so that makes it worth a look. Unit is very solid. Best Onkyo to date. Unless you are a collector of Blu Ray players, I would not recommend, the earlier 606 and 507 models. Overall Onkyo seems to run a bit hehind featurewise.

AS FOR MYSELF I'M NOT ONE WHO WANTED OR NEEDED THE STREAMING OR WI-FI GOODIES ,TOP AUDIO AND PICTURE QUALITY WAS MY MAIN FOCUS, I WAS REPLACING THE SAMSUNG 1500 BECAUSE OF IRREGULAR HICCUPS FROM TIME TO TIME,I HAD MY HEART SET ON THE OPPO-83 UNTIL I SAW THIS ONKYO BEAUTY.WHILE THE OPPO WAS AT A PRIME PRICE TAG OF $500.00 AND THE ONKYO $600.00 I REALLY HAD A DECISION TO MAKE ,ALL OF THE REVIEWS I'VE READ ON THE OPPO HAD ME STOKED ,BUT DUE TO THE NEWNESS OF THE ONKYO,REVIEWS WERE SCARCE TO NONE ,BUT I DID FIND ABOUT 3 REVIEWS THAT WERE DONE IN EUROPE WITH 5 STAR RATINGS,SO ABOUT A MONTH AGO I HAPPENED UPON THE $299.00 PRICE TAG ON THE ONKYO WHICH DID'NT TAKE ME LONG TO "JUMP ON IT "!!,AND I MUST SAY I HAVE'NT BEEN MORE PLEASED ,THE PQ AND AQ ARE AMAZING,THOUGH THE LOAD TIME IS A TAD BIT SLOWER THAN THE SAMSUNG AND THE REMOTE FEELS LIKE A TOY,IT GOES ABOVE AND BEYOND THE CALL OF DUTY IN PERFORMANCE AND CALIBRATION QUALITIES,SO IF PQ AND AQ ARE THE MAIN INTERESTS IN A BLU-RAY PLAYER AND YOU DON'T WANT TO PAY THE OPPO PRICE TAG ,I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PLAYER ....AND IT'S THX CERTIFIED (if thats a badge of honor still),AND THE UPSCALING OF SD DVD'S IS THE BEST I'VE EVER SEEN IN OR ON ANY PLAYER THAT FEATURES UPSCALING CAPABILITIES. UPDATE: ONKYO HAS JUST ANNOUNCED THE RELEASE OF THE NEWER THX BLU-RAY PLAYER MODEL, THE BD-SP808,WHICH IS THE SAME AS THE 807 BUT WITH BLOCKBUSTER ON DEMAND ,WHICH IS ANOTHER FEATURE I MORE THAN LIKELY WOULD'NT USE ,BUT FOR THOSE WHO WOULD FIND THAT A FEATURE THAT THEY MUST HAVE ,GRAB IT UP ,BECAUSE THIS IS AN AWSOME PLAYER...I LOVE IT !!!

I am a bit of on Onkyo fan, so this may be a little biased but both the picture and sound quality are excellent. It doesn't matter if it's a playing a Bluray or up-converting a regular DVD, I am impressed each time I watch a movie on my Sony-No-Baloney LCD TV.
