3.0 out of 5 stars Fun to Fiddle With July 7, 2013

I downloaded this app to my Kindle to manage my music. Because I have two zones, I do experience some problems directing the music to the speakers I want to use. I know there will be a learning curve, and every time it seems I get where I'm going through trial, error and some frustration. I will continue to experiment with this, though, because I believe in the end this will prove useful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Onkyo Remote for the iPhone January 30, 2014

I use this on my iPhone 4s. Works great. Better than the actual ugly and designless physical remote! I recommend if you have the phone to install it on.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great on Kindle, not so good o Android phone April 13, 2013

On the kindle you get a great to use application, Pandora works very well. On my Droid Razr Maxx phone it is not sized to the screen appropriately and you can not see some of the screen and therefore can not use certain buttons rendering it useless.

5.0 out of 5 stars It works like a charm January 22, 2013

I purchased an Onkyo NR515 reciever and downloaded this free app on my Kindle. I like the remote that came with the machine, but the buttons are small and the writing even smaller. Even though this app doesn't control every function, I can read the functions without glasses.

I purchased a TX-NR509 receiver last December and downloaded the remote app shortly thereafter. I also use a Logitech Harmony 880 universal remote that covers most operations that I need for normal media watching. The app is very good for when you need to do setup tasks on the receiver. My smartphone's touchscreen is easier to work with than either the Onkyo supplied remote or the Logitech remote. But where the remote app really shines is when using the receiver's applications, or especially when serving music off of your own smartphone. You heard that right, you can serve music from your smartphone to your Onkyo receiver. Not only that, but you can serve music off of any DLNA enabled device on your network. That is really cool.

When using the receiver's applications (Pandora, vTuner, Rhapsody, etc.), the TX-NR509's plain-jane interface actually hampers ease of use. The remote app fixes all of that, giving you a nice graphical interface as well as nice "now playing" information screen. This is where the remote app shines best. The only drawback is that, in my case, the receiver has to be powered on in order for the wi-fi adapter to work, meaning that you can't turn it on from the remote app. But if you are shopping for a new media center receiver and need a tie breaker, see what remote apps the competition has and compare it to this one. Good luck, because this app will be tough to beat.

1.0 out of 5 stars App opens up but doesn't find my receiver January 30, 2014

I've chosen this rating because this app doesn't work at all, it keeps crashing and it does not find my receiver, I have the same app for mi iPhone and it works flawlessly.

4.0 out of 5 stars Glad to have it! July 1, 2013
Verified Purchase
I'm giving it 4 stars because I'm thrilled that it's available, but it probably only deserves 3 at this time. With some tweaking it'll likely soon deserve 4 or 5 stars. So nice to have "Sonos" capabilities, wirelessly accessing and controlling all the features of your receiver - Pandora, FM radio, music on your PC and other devices.

It's still a bit buggy at times, but overall works reliably well. One improvement/change I'd like to see is the addition of "plus"/"minus" volume control buttons to fine tune the volume. The slider is difficult to control and better suited for large changes. (blown speakers could be a problem for some)

Also, better instructions on set-up and use would be nice. I couldn't find anything, anywhere describing how to use and/or setup it's TV control capabilities.

And finally, Onkyo (someone) please make this app suitable for Windows 8 phones! Thanks!

Really, Onkyo is this what you call an app for your products in 2015. Not very usable and when on the tablet it is the same as the phone. Read more
