4.0 out of 5 stars Good Deal
This device has worked exceptionally well for me. I have had not issues with it, and I have owned it for about 9 months now. Drawbacks if any are that the device is slow to respond to my requests for opening trays, stopping play, and shuttingdown, but I have seen some other brands have similar functionality. Its a great device made by a superior brand Onkyo. It goes...

1.0 out of 5 stars Nothing but problems
The video quality is terrible for progressive scan (no 3:2 pulldown). Sometimes the audio would suddenly stop working (analog & digital). It locks up, lacks features, and the tray movement is loud & inconsistent. There are much better dvd changers for half the price.

1.0 out of 5 stars Junk, November 7, 2004
This review is from: Onkyo DV-CP500 5-Disc Progressive-Scan DVD Player (Electronics)
The first one failed, didn't read DVDs and would not eject. I sent it back in under warranty and the replacement did the same thing. What a junker. I've had all kinds of Onkyo equipment in the past and it was all top quality. Not this piece.

1.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Horrible, November 12, 2005
By
This review is from: Onkyo DV-CP500 5-Disc Progressive-Scan DVD Player (Electronics)
I'll just add my woes to the long list. Same problems as others have seen -- slow opening or sticking drawer, disc errors on discs that much older cheaper players will play, erratic performance. Problems started after a few months. Should have taken it back then. I have the same Onkyo receiver as one of the previous reviewers, and I've also had outstanding performance from it, but I will NEVER again purchase an Onkyo DVD player. Heading to the store right now for a replacement.

1.0 out of 5 stars First it would not read DVD's, now it will not eject!, October 13, 2004
This review is from: Onkyo DV-CP500 5-Disc Progressive-Scan DVD Player (Electronics)
Wow! I wish these reviews existed when I bought mine! Same problems: It was always slow; It stopped reading discs after 10 months (under warranty had it fixed at a local shop within a week); Now it will not eject, and of coarse it is out of warranty!

1.0 out of 5 stars Wish I'd Read These Reviews 18 Months Ago!, June 10, 2004
This review is from: Onkyo DV-CP500 5-Disc Progressive-Scan DVD Player (Electronics)
You can add my name to the list of "victims" on this product! I also bought this DVD Player 18 months ago as part of a Home Theater system which included the Onkyo TX SR600 Receiver/Amp and the fantastic Bose Acoustamass 15 speakers. No complaints on the receiver or speakers, but the DVD player started acting up after 12 months and has now just quit altogether. It lights up but can't get the drawer to open. I found all of these negative reviews while researching a replacement, which I guarantee will NOT be another Onkyo.

1.0 out of 5 stars avoid like the plaque, March 28, 2004
This review is from: Onkyo DV-CP500 5-Disc Progressive-Scan DVD Player (Electronics)
Echoing the woes of previous reviewers, I add the story of my experience with this DVD player. I bought it as part of a home theater package with the TX-SR600 receiver and speakers. The receiver and speakers have worked fine, but this DVD player stopped working after 14 months of extremely light use (1 DVD or CD played a week or less). This DVD player now gives a "disc error" for any CD or DVD I put in. I'll have to add this one to the growing cemetary for Onkyo DVD players as the 1 year warranty is over and it will probably cost more to fix it than get a new DVD player from another company.

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor Poor Poor Quality & Worse Support, June 10, 2003

Let me start by saying if I could rate this product ZERO stars I would have. I bought the Onkyo DV-C600 6 disc changer for myself and the newer version for my dad a year later. Little did I know this product is of the poorest quality. Within 2 years my DVD player [died] on me and less than a year after that it's now completely fried. My father's situation is much worse. His player died a year after he owned and Onkyo refused to repair it. I also own an Onkyo tuner, which [died] after a year and half, they repaired it and figers crossed it hasn't broken yet. I'm 3 for 3 on defective equipment so be warned DO NOT BUY ONKYO unless you want POOR POOR POOR QUALITY AND WORSE SERVICE/SUPPORT!!!

2.0 out of 5 stars Problems, March 27, 2003
This review is from: Onkyo DV-CP500 5-Disc Progressive-Scan DVD Player (Electronics)
I purchased this unit in December, 2002. I really enjoyed it for the first two months and then it would no longer read DVD's. It would read a CD or an MP3-CD only. It's currently at an authorized service center. They believe it is an allignment or decoding problem. Thankfully, it's under warranty. Buy with caution.

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor reliabilty and Poor service, January 23, 2004

This review is from: Onkyo DV-CP500 5-Disc Progressive-Scan DVD Player (Electronics)
I bought this DVD player as part of an Onkyo home theater package. The other components work well, but I've had the same problems as others listed here -- it finally quit working completely 13 months after purchase. Onkyo's authorized service center claimed it was due to abuse (not!) and refused to honor the warranty. In addition, the national service center drug their feet, didn't return phone calls, lost multiple faxes of my receipt - it took over a month for them to tell me they weren't going to pay to fix it, while there were DVD rental disks trapped inside!!

I've owned Onkyo products for 13 years, but my replacement DVD player won't be another Onkyo. Very unhappy with their Service Center and authorized repair center.
