If you are plugging your iPod into your stereo system using the headphone jack on your iPod, you are actually processing your digital music files through the iPod's necessarily cheap digital audio converter and sending out the resulting degraded analog signal to your stereo system. This Onkyo docking station will allow you to instead stream the original, unaltered, digital files and have them processed into analog through your presumably better quality stereo system's digital audio converter. This is especially critical if you go through the trouble to keep non-compressed (non MP3 files) on your iPod. This docking station came shipped from Japan with a Japanese-language manual. The English manual is readily available on Onkyo's website.

Best sounding Ipod transport dock you can buy Period.

Don't waste your money trying other transport docks. I did and wasted my money and time.

Simply but , this is the most transparent iPod. iPhone conduit in the world.

I use it with a tos-link cable straight into my NAD M2 amp.

i found sounds to be hard and flat, especially in the higher frequency.

Maybe it is not meant for ALAC files

Made from plastic and the price is quite steep, but one of the few devices to allow digital extraction from an iPOD etc. Large remote control. No problem at all to install and use.
