This is a gorgeous looking piece that fits all the functions I needed it for: DVD player, CD player and photo CD viewer. Other than a little slowness upon starting and changing discs (this gets annoying quickly), I find it quiet and reliable. I have an Onkyo receiver, and I'm pleased that the component is compatible so I can use only one remote to control both. Even if you turn the player completely off, it remembers the last place you were at in the DVD. Another quibble -- the screen display of titles and such is quite small, so keep your glasses on. But overall, you'll be pleased with this investment.

This is a terrific value for the money. I looked at a lot of DVD players before i bought this one. Best bang for the buck and it's compatible with my Onkyo receiver/surround sound system. Six discs, not five: great!

Onkyo 6 Disc HDMI Player DVCP704S This player provides excellent CD audio with near High-Def / HDMI DVD playback. Although the CD-related functions are not as varied, perhaps, as a dedicated player, the available functions are well suited to playing a complete album or "party" background music.

Because of the fact that I returned this item for a full refund and have no experience operating the Onkyo player, I have no business reviewing or even rating this product. I ended up with a Sony home theater with a DVD player built in so I didn't need it, especially with a changer. You can't play all 6 discs at once with the Onkyo, nor have I ever felt the need to have 5 DVDs on tap in case I suddenly change my mind about the DVD I'm watching. At my age I am still OK with physically changing the DVD in the player when I want to watch something different but my opinion may change if I, God forbid, suffer from a tragedy that leaves me without the use of my physical facilities. Another benefit of manual DVD changing is that statistically the DVDs end up in the correct cases more often than with an automatic changer. In addition, I have several remotes already; I don't actually know what they are all for but somehow I'm able to manage, and the fact that the volume and the DVD player are now controlled by the Sony remote, its effectiveness is directly doubled.

I bought the Onkyo because the name sounded cool, I think it must be Japanese but it could be someone's name or complete gibberish. I remember someone in high school got an Onkyo system in his car and it sounded pretty rad to my undeveloped ears, so I went with my gut thinking that they must still be pretty good, especially with a name like Onkyo. If it was a really crappy product, they would probably change the name to something associated with quality or prestige. If it was called the "Bling HDMI Player" or "Rolls Royce DVD Experience" I may have reservations about the actual quality or performance so I have to say: good call, Onkyo.

I can't comment on any of the unit's attributes other than its color is desireable if you have other components that are the same silver hue; to the untrained eye it may even appear to part of a matched system. In some situations this may elevate your status among your peers or your present company, whatever their social merit or rank. The silver color used here and in other electronics is ostensibly relaying the incorrect impression that the unit is actually forged or tooled from metal, but I believe it is only plastic or another synthetic material that only resembles machined metal. It would be much heavier if it was made entirely of metal, but if I had to take a wild guess I would say it's around 500 pounds. For a more realistic guess I would say it's about 15 pounds.

Ny friend Mike had an Onkyo home theater and then later became wildly successful in life; one thing he purchased after his success bloomed was a Naim Audio system that was some ridiculously insane cost but supposedly had some tube-induced sonic qualities that were imperceptible to the human ear. In my opinion paying some idiotic amount of money for an audio system that has qualities imperceptible to the human ear is no different than buying an Onkyo because the name sounds cool. Or buying anything for your pet or child advertised in the Hammacher-Schlemmer catalog.

What can I say, this was the third DVD player I ordered from Amazon in my quest to play a DVD that was created in the UK (All Regions coding). Sony products will simply not play DVD's that were not made in the USA. This player works amazingly with my Gateway 24" monitor (which I use as a TV). I love having 6 disc's to choose from, I can load it up with DVD's and don't have to get up to change them all day!
