Onkyo bills its SKS-HT520 speaker system as the missing piece to your home theater puzzle, and it's easy to see why. The bundle comes with seven total speakers--two front speakers, three surround speakers, one center speaker for dialogue, and a thundering 150-watt subwoofer. The front and rear speakers can each handle up to 130 watts of power, enough to easily meet the audio needs of all but the biggest rooms. The front bass reflex speakers are well equipped for both surround sound and traditional stereo play, with dual 5-1/4-inch cone woofers complementing a 1-inch dome tweeter. The surround speakers, meanwhile, come with 4-inch cone woofers and 1-inch balanced dome tweeters to provide the enhanced soundstage that defines a good surround system. The third surround speaker, which is usually installed behind the listener about 2 or 3 feet above ear level, is particularly valuable, as it helps the listener locate the sound better than with 5.1 systems to enhance the overall realism. Listeners will notice everything from the tiniest patter of raindrops to the distant thumping of footsteps to the faintest creak in a rocking chair (the frequency response is an impressive 25 Hz to 50 kHz).
