5.0 out of 5 stars Good choice
I needed a basic stereo receiver to play my old LP's and cassette tapes as well as my newer CD's. The Onkyo TX8211 does it all very well. Good sound, easy hookup, low price, and adequate power. Yes, 50 watts is sufficient power for a normal sized room. It is obvious that the previous reviewer does not own an Onkyo TX8211 or has even gone to the store to look at one, or he...

I needed a basic stereo receiver to play my old LP's and cassette tapes as well as my newer CD's. The Onkyo TX8211 does it all very well. Good sound, easy hookup, low price, and adequate power. Yes, 50 watts is sufficient power for a normal sized room. It is obvious that the previous reviewer does not own an Onkyo TX8211 or has even gone to the store to look at one, or he would know that this receiver does come with a built in phono input. The alternate to this receiver is the ... Sony STR-DE185 but the Sony would require the addition of a ...phono preamp adapter to play LP's so the total price is back up .... The ...Onkyo will save you a lot of hassle and give you slightly better numbers (THD, etc.) than the Sony albeit the Sony is a 100 watt system.

4.0 out of 5 stars Onkyo TX8211, February 9, 2003

This review is from: ONKYO TX-8211 Stereo Receiver (Electronics)
Overall a well-equipped receiver with enough power to keep most listeners happy. I chose this model for its excellent price and phono input. I'm pleased with the crisp clean sound. A few drawbacks keep this unit from perfection. The remote only controls volume and input source, although there are plenty of controls for other Onkyo components, which may eliminate the need for multiple remotes. Also the Tape 2 input is intended as a monitor that overrides other inputs when selected and must be turned off before listening to other sources, a minor inconvenience. Tape to tape recording capabilities are limited, if not impossible.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Stereo Receiver!!!!, January 10, 2006
This review is from: ONKYO TX-8211 Stereo Receiver (Electronics)
If you are looking for an inexpensive Stereo receiver that sounds GREAT this is it! This is NOT an AV Receiver and does not claim to be. It does exactly what it was designed for and that is play great sounding stereo music. I bought to use in my office at work and Love it. The unit comes on when I walk in at 7 AM and stays now till I leave around 5:30 PM and have NEVER had any problems with this unit. Unlike my Sony unit I have at home that cost me 3 times more money. Do yourself a favor and treat yourself to an Onkyo unit, you will not regret it!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice sounding receiver/no frills, August 27, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: ONKYO TX-8211 Stereo Receiver (Electronics)
I picked up the Onkyo TX-8211 as a second receiver to put in my computer room. It has a sharp looking black finish which matches most of my other audio equipment and its inputs nicely acommodated my IPOD, a portable audio CD player, and the output from my computer's sound card. I hooked it up to a pair of Sony MB150H bookshelf speakers and it sounds great. My out of the box experience was a little disappointing because the supplied cheapie FM antenna made the receiver seem like a dud with respect to picking up stations. I went to Radio Shack and picked up a simple FM dipole antenna for $5. I hooked it up and was pleasantly surprised by all the stations I could pull in. With the new antenna, I was able to fill up my presets with clear sounding radio stations. It would have been nice if the TX8211 used bannana connecters but overall its a good receiver for the price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Stereo Receiver, June 30, 2006
This review is from: ONKYO TX-8211 Stereo Receiver (Electronics)
This is a really good receiver at a really good price. Onkyo is a well know brand that has been around for 25+ years and has always provided high quality equipment. This unit has a phono input(no you cannot use the aux for phono) that is seldom found on most receivers. If you really need to rattle the neighbors windows, the 50 Watts/channel maybe a little light, but great for nornal use.

"Please read the fine print for "onecall" REQUIRES SIGNATURE AT TIME OF DELIVERY !!! this means i'm going to have to take the day off from work or drive 30 miles to pick my package up..."

I don't get it.
MY GOOD MAN! Had it not occurred to you to have it shipped to your work address?
I think it unfair to rate the Onkyo product based on one retailer's shipping policy, (which BTW is designed to protect YOU,) rather than on the quality of the product itself.

By the way, did you not see the cost of shipping before buying? If it was too much then why not move on to another internet discount house.
In my opinion this is where user reviews break down and become unhelpful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for My Use, February 19, 2010
This review is from: ONKYO TX-8211 Stereo Receiver (Electronics)
I bought this off Ebay for $60.00 and I couldn't be happier with it.

I am running it @ 4ohms X 100W, powering my Klipsch Forte's for
my DJ Rig.

Plenty of beef to rattle the house. In fact it was wayyyy loud
at 1/2. 1/4 volume is still very loud and looks like it will be
my normal listening volume.

I don't know about the units other features, but as far as my usage
goes I'm stoked.

5.0 out of 5 stars a prudent choice, October 14, 2007
This review is from: ONKYO TX-8211 Stereo Receiver (Electronics)
i bought this because at the time it was the most affordable receiver with a phono input, and i have always heard good things about onkyo. to put it simply (as most other reviews seem to agree): solid, affordable, simple. i've driven 4 different sets of speakers (at different times) on this onkyo, and all sound decent, if uninspired. other than that, i'd say its the honda civic of receivers. i compare it to the vintage 70's receiver i fire up at times (the '69 dodge charger of receivers)- it blows the onkyo out of the water in sound intensity and power, but seems ready to blow the speakers out as well. what does this all mean? i don't know.

5.0 out of 5 stars Onkyo TX-8211 Stereo Receiver, February 1, 2007
This review is from: ONKYO TX-8211 Stereo Receiver (Electronics)
After my 21 year old Sony STR-AV460 receiver lost sound on one channel, I began searching for a replacement. I was already impressed with the Onkyo surround sound system (HT-R320)I bought 2 years ago to go with a big screen television, and after studying reviews in Consumer Reports and the Amazon web site decided to stay with Onkyo. The TX-8211 was easy to set up, since all I had to do was swap over the speaker, phonograph, CD player, and tape deck connections already in place. The sound quality is a major improvement over my old receiver (which had probably suffered some gradual deterioration over the years) - no distortion, and significantly more vlume output. My only disappointment is that the FM sensitivity is the same as the old equipment (and the other Onkyo receiver, for that matter). I had hoped I might get better reception of some of the weaker stations in my area (Boston 'burbs), but I presume a better antenna is needed to address that issue. Bottom line: nice unit, great price, and very quick delivery from the vendor (J & R Music/Computer World).
