This is truly a book for beginners. Written in a very friendly manner, it's best left to those with NO experience or knowledge. I worked within an online marketing department and was looking for infrastructural knowledge of this industry. What I got was what I would provide to my 17-year-old, should he be interested in the subject.
An easy, quick read for those described above.

Must Read,

This review is from: Online Marketing Inside Out (Online Marketing: Sitepoint) (Paperback)
I just finished reading 'Online Marketing Inside Out' and I'm already buzzing with ideas from the book. I've been building web sites for quite some time (14 years) and I've dabbled in Marketing, SEO, Social Media, etc. but I've always wanted to explore affiliate marketing, buying PPC Ads, email marketing... the list goes on. While each topic could easily be a book on it's own this book does a great job of covering issues in enough details to help you build a broad marketing plan that makes use of all the tools available to you.
Whether you're a budding marketing guru or just a developer who wants their projects to rank better, I think this book will help. It's well written, the layout is excellent and the material is easy to follow. You don't have to be a "web geek" to understand the topics covered and it's not a dry computer manual like some I've read. I would easily recommend this book to anyone who would like to know about Marketing online. I only wish this book was out years ago!

This is truly a book which seems to serve one purpose only: To market the authors and their company. Unfortunately, the price for doing so is that the rest of us risks buying the book - and thus wasting our money on a publication with absolutely no substantial content. OK, granted, if you have never heard of Twitter, Google or online Social Media, the book might provide you with some insights. For the rest of us it is simply waste of time and money.

Online Marketing Easily Explained and Covers It All,

Review: by Gregory West
[...] Member of Sarnia Computer Users' Group [...] Member of Port Huron, MI Computer Group [....] Blog: [...] Online Marketing Inside Out by Brandon Eley & Shayne Tilley Published by SitePoint Pty. Ltd. ISBN-978-0-9805768-2-5 Pages: 184 [...] Nine dynamic chapters that guide you through your next "modern marketing campaign". Chapter one explains how marketing is changing pointing out things you need to know before you begin planning your next promotion or campaign. You will learn how to make money from a website by page views, optimize the values within search engines (SEO) and how the main players in social media can help you go deeper inside the communities spreading the word of your company or product. Even though email marketing has been around forever, it seems, this book sparks a new interest showing "many advantages" and the authors "walk you through every step towards a successful email marketing strategy". Having your own sales people working for you online is easy when you create an "affiliate marketing program" that is covered in Chapter seven. The advantages of having an "army of salesmen all over the world" promoting for you is explained in easy to understand terms in this chapter. This is followed in sequence with Chapter eight wherein you learn about the world of "online advertising" as you will be able to "plan, implement, test, and optimize" what you setup with your online advertising. I really like the way this book is set out. The Table of Contents leaves nothing to imagination. The Preface wand Chapters have extensive headings that guide you through the various topics so that you can easily look something up and jump right in on that subject. For example, in Chapter two's listing you will find headings such as: Press Releases. Then followed with sub-headings: Press Releases in the 21st Century, When to Write a Press Release, Stand Out From the Crowd and so on. Every chapter tags your interest and keeps you coming back as a reference point for helping you develop your own online marketing campaign. This book is for those who "have a web site and...want to promote it", or anyone else who wants and/or needs to learn this amazing subject of online marketing. Even if you are already doing online marketing and feel fairly successful, this book will take you to the next level of expertise and guide you in directions you may have possibly passed by. Specially good for those of us with an offline marketing background, because it reteaches you marketing from a new angle. You don't have to be a marketer to understand this book. It's meant for everyone getting started in web marketing. I just wanted to point out that for some of us, and for our better understanding, many of the examples they use in the book are great analogies from the offline world, and we appreciate that!
It is definitely a must have for everyone who runs a business and wants to advertise online. Why? Because internet has changed and now the dynamics of the game are different than what they were in 2000? 2005? The authors have done a wonderful job explaining everything very thoroughly and yet in very short precise chunks, so that readers can digest things more easily and smoothly. No jargon whatsoever. From beginning to end they put things in perspective in very simple words.

Eley covers practically all the bases in this easy-to-read, concise, informative book. The chapters stand alone really well, so whether you're a one-man band or prefer to have different members of your team study the sections that apply to them most directly, this book is well worth it.
He is covering so many topics with so many moving parts that each segment is a bit higher level than the "Dummies" books, but if you know enough about the internet (and marketing) not to need a lot of hand-holding, but are wanting to know "best practices" and where the resources are, you'll find this an enjoyable and informative read. The focus is truly on what works and will produce practical results for your organization, which makes sense because Eley is both an experienced entrepreneur AND a web expert.

Invaluable for aspiring entrepreneurs, small business owners, and corporate executives,

Selling on the internet is a core aspect of the modern business plan. It expands the marketplace for goods and services across the country and around the world. But online marketing has its own 'rules of the road' that must be mastered to be successful. That's why "Online Marketing Inside Out", an indispensable instruction manual and reference guide, is so timely and so welcome. The collaboration of SitePoint's marketing manager Shayne Tiley, and online shoe retailer Brandon Eley, "Online Marketing Inside Out" is a compendium of practical advise, insightful commentary, and basic information regarding the utilization of modern marketing techniques such as search engine optimization, email marketing, affiliate marketing, online advertising, the social media outlets, web site designs, and internet based public relations and media. Of special note is the chapter dedicated organizing together all the disparate elements of an online marketing plan. Thoroughly 'user friendly', "Online Marketing Inside Out" is very highly recommended and invaluable for aspiring entrepreneurs, small business owners, and corporate executives charged with the responsibility for designing, developing, and implementing a competitive and successful online marketing program.

SitePoint Authors Ban Together,
By Webmaster "DB" (Florida) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Online Marketing Inside Out (Online Marketing: Sitepoint) (Paperback)
I have read several Sitepoint books. Like most of us, the book reviews is part of my decision in purchase. After my last purchase, i think I learn my lesson not to trust reviews of sitepoint books....I was told that sitepoint authors help each other out by giving each other high reviews. This explains a lot of why such a poorly informative book like this one would have high reviews. It is not worth the time. The read is mundane (not at all inspiring) and the info provided is far from informative. If you need a read to tell you to do PR's, blogs, SEO basics, etc, than this is the book for you.
