It fits over standard teacups and mugs.

The mesh is quite fine so it does a good job of filtering out the tea leaves.

This is an excellent tea strainer. When you brew loose tea in a teapot, just fit this strainer over your cup and pour your tea to catch any leaves that pour out with the liquid. Since it has a drip tray, you just lay the strainer in the tray to avoid a mess. It fits over standard teacups and mugs. I love it because it's both functional and pretty.

I bought 2 of these tea strainers with bowl to catch drips and gave one to each of my daughters. We had used them at a tea house and my daughters had commented on the functionality of the bowl designed to catch the drips. The original intent of the strainer is to put loose leaf tea in a teapot and when pouring the tea out of the pot the strainer suspended over your tea cup will catch the loose leaf tea. I don't bother with a tea pot. I just put loose leaf tea in the strainer and pour hot water over the tea leaves up to the strainer, let the tea infuse for a couple minutes, remove the strainer and put it in the catch bowl and I can do that multiple times before the tea leaves produce watery tea. We also just use the bowl to hold tea bags after they have been in the cup to catch their drips. Anyway you use it, it is functional and attractive.

This is a great little tea strainer that you won't be embarrassed to have on the table with your tea things. The mesh is quite fine so it does a good job of filtering out the tea leaves. It comes with a drip stand so you can set it on the table after using it without worrying about dripping tea everywhere. It is a tad small for my fancy large rimmed teacup but I just hold it over & it does fine. If you have a regular sized teacup you should have no problems just setting it on the mouth of the teacup. I've washed it many times and it has not yet rusted so I'm happy about that. The price here on Amazon is extremely reasonable so you can't go wrong.

This strainer looks nice and works well. I really like the large diameter strainer, and the handles fit over a large mug. The handles are made of a very light gauge stainless steel, though, and do feel a bit flimsy. So far no problems, so I'm not complaining, but I'm sure that if I drop this unit on the hard kitchen floor, at least one of the handles will bend. I also have one of the Italian plainer-looking strainers, and that one has been through a lot and still looks like new. The handles on it are thicker than on this Empress Tea Strainer.

The mesh is fine and strains well. I bought this because my tea infuser did not have a fine mesh and did not keep tea pieces out of my tea. This does what I want it to do perfectly and is a cute and elegant design. Great for personal tea making but if you want to have a fancy tea party, I would say that you might want to get something a bit nicer (not to say that this isn't nice but maybe it isn't fancy enough).

I love this little tea strainer. The mesh basket catches even the fine grind of Rooibos tea yet allows the liquid to pass through quickly enough to pour without stopping. I also love the way it reminds me of Middlethorp Manor in York, England where we enjoyed our morning tea with gorgeous antique silver tea strainers. It is a little luxury that can take you back to a more refined era. Bottom line: it works great and looks pretty on the table. Win-win.

The mesh basket is large enough to hold the leaves and easy to clean but small enough to keep in a drawer. Good piece of kitchen equipment.

Being a tea drinker all my life I find the taste of tea from tea bags depressing. But when you brew fresh loose tea leaves you need a strainer. This one is great. It comes with a bowl to catch dripping which is not included in most other strainers. The handles on the strainer is long enough that it sits well on a over-sized mug. A bit pricey when you include shipping but it does a good job.
