This review is from: Only You, Dick Darling! Or How to Write One Television Script and Make $50,000,000 - a True-life Adventure (Hardcover)
I was given this book years ago, when I first started doing tv, and it made me laugh out loud. I just re-read it, and now, I still laugh, but I wince much more: this book is far too true: unbelievably so, if you haven't experienced it yourself. Written in a breezy, readable style by a truly great writer ("Plain Speaking"). Here's a contemporary article about "Only you..." from Time Magazine:
[...] (If the link doesn't work, search Time for "Only you, Merle Miller") An enjoyable, absurd and insightful book, with lessons for anyone who deals with "creative" types, or executives of any stripe. "Classic" is an overused word. Let's just say this book is the very best of its kind. Highly recommended. |
