4.0 out of 5 stars More than just a story, a very strong, unique metal act.
I was very surprised by this EP. I assumed it would be rougher, more civilian- with plenty to say, of course! This band has been through more than perhaps any other on Earth, but I wasn't expecting such quality and precision. From the local influence in the guitar solo and outro drumming of "Garden of Stones" to the Trivium-esque breakneck guitar riffs in "Message from...

2.0 out of 5 stars What are people thinking?
Ok, speaking purely about the music: this is a pretty mediocre EP. No way that any reasonable person would give this 5-stars. The first track is decent but the other three are just filler. This would have been sub-par back in 1984 and is certainly so now. Don't get me wrong, I watched "Heavy Metal in Baghdad" and I think the story of this band is amazing but, come on...

4.0 out of 5 stars More than just a story, a very strong, unique metal act., March 9, 2010
I was very surprised by this EP. I assumed it would be rougher, more civilian- with plenty to say, of course! This band has been through more than perhaps any other on Earth, but I wasn't expecting such quality and precision. From the local influence in the guitar solo and outro drumming of "Garden of Stones" to the Trivium-esque breakneck guitar riffs in "Message from Baghdad," these guys can rock, hard and consistently.

Well worth the purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars Muslims can rock hard!, October 1, 2010

Ok, this is not some new, original, game changing music. But it rocks! The riffs are wicked, the drumming is tight, and the vocals are great. "Massacre" has the guts to both rock and give you chills as good as any that Sepultura (the kings of message metal) have ever put out. I have watched the documentary repeatedly, and regularly show it to others, and had to check this out, and these guys did exactly what they set out to do - to write and play some great metal songs! Like I said, not really innovative in any particular way, but I can easily say I would have listened and rocked out even if I HADN'T heard their story first. Glad to hear they recently made it to the US and can walk down the street with their hair long and their metal t-shirts without worrying about getting shot for it.

Rock on Acrassicauda! Hope to hear more in the future!

4.0 out of 5 stars A promising new metal band, April 25, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This EP by metal band from Iraq of all places shows alot of potential. Listening to the songs you definately get a sense they listened to alot of old thrash bands like Metallica, Megadeth and Slayer. The songs on the EP show they have a wide range of talent from straight metal songs to more instrumental stuff like Garden of Stones (favorite track). This band shows it has tons of talent and hope one day they can make a debut album. Also check out there DVD which shows their journey from Iraq to Turkey during the invasion. After watching that you will support their dream and PURCHASE the EP.

5.0 out of 5 stars You've come a long way boys!, July 23, 2010
First heard about these guys when 'Heavy Metal in Baghdad' came out.. no one metal band has gone through as much as these boys have in their existence!

Even after they finally made it here to the US despite all the visa trials and tribulations, they had to live hand-to-mouth for some time rehearsing with whatever scavenged equipment they could find, but when they finally were able to record their EP this is the product.

Excellent excellent stuff, get this and listen to what people can do when they have metal in their souls and determination in their hearts!

When I heard of a metal from Baghdad I wanted to know who they were.
When I heard Acrassicauda was the band I was looking for I wanted to hear there music.
When I heard Message From Baghdad, the first track, I wanted to hear the rest of the EP.
If you are not paying attention Only The Dead See The End Of The War may sound as if the EP was written by four different bands.
I am glad I bought the EP. When Acrassicauda releases a full blown album or another EP I will be standing in front of the in-store display with the CD in-hand ready to pay for it.

You can hear the influence of western metal giants Slayer,Megadeth, and Metallica but the music comes off as their own. This is a great first effort and I can't wait to hear more stuff. I watched "Heavy Metal in Baghdad" after listening to the EP for a couple of weeks and even more impressed by what they had to go through just to play.
"Message from Baghdad" and "Garden of Stones" really caught my ear.

4.0 out of 5 stars Decent new metal act, May 19, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
First of all, I love the new EP, these guys sound so much better now that they have better equipment and are in a studio that can record metal well.
It is an EP so there are only 4 songs, so I was disappointed but what is on the cd is awesome.
I wouldn't say it's the greatest thing I ever heard but it is decent.
Massacre and Garden of Stones would have to be my favorites, the other tracks are decent as well.

Normally I would never buy an EP, My main reason for buying this is to support the band, I've seen their documentary; so I know what they had to go through to get where they are today.
Much respect for Acrassicauda.

4.0 out of 5 stars An Iraqi metal band?, April 6, 2010

This review is from: Only the Dead See the End of the War (MP3 Download)
Yup, these guys are from Iraq. This is a very solid, talented debut from a band that I cannot personally wait to get more music from. Mostly I am impressed with the amount of emotion that they put into their music. This is what they want to be doing. And it shows.

They produce a very unique sound. Metal through and though, but there are also strong arabic roots in the rhythms.

The vocals range from growls to true singing and everything in between.

The guitarist is amazing, even more so for this early in what I hope is a long career. Mellow riffs to screaming solos.

Drums are fluid and dont feel choppy at all as some metal is.

Check out these guys if you are looking for something a little different. Wont be disappointed.
