Book Description

When Scarlet realized Penelope was dumping Sean, her best friend, she was devastated. Penelope was the love of his life, the woman of his dreams. Scarlet knew how far her best friend was going to fall and she had to catch him. Scarlet became Sean’s rock and helped him through a very painful breakup, but her own hidden desires bubbled to the surface in the process. When they finally gave in and slept together, she thought it was the start of their new relationship. Unfortunately, Sean didn’t feel the same.

Humiliated and heartbroken, Scarlet moved across the country and found what she least expected. She rekindled her damaged relationship with her brother, who she hadn’t spoken to in a year, and her brother’s best friend was attractive and interesting. Their relationship was natural and unforced, and she was immediately drawn to him. Would she be able to get over Sean, forget about him, by sleeping with Cortland, or would that just be another repeated mistake?

THIS IS NOT A CLIFFHANGER

*Recommended for mature audiences 17+ due to strong language and sexual content.*

About the Author

E. L. Todd was raised in California where she attended California State University, Stanislaus and received her bachelor’s degree in biological sciences, then continued onto her master’s degree in education. While science is interesting and a hobby, her passion is writing. After writing novels as a small child, her craft grew until she found the confidence to show her closest friends—which is how Only For You, the first installment of the Forever and Always series, and the Soul Saga series began. When she isn’t reading or writing, she is listening to indie rock music. Her current favorite artist is Mumford and Sons, whom she credits most of her inspiration for her novels. She also enjoys running and swimming, as well as working as a high school teacher. She also works as an assistant editor at Final-Edits.com. She has an unusual obsession with dogs, even though she doesn’t own one, and her favorite vacation spot is Disneyland, which she visits several times a year. The most important aspect of her life is her friends, whom contributed so much time and energy into all of her novels. According to E. L. Todd, “Without them, Only For You and Soul Catcher never would have come to fruition. I am theirs forever.”

1.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't finish and here's why December 10, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
A lot of people loved this book. I found it supremely annoying and couldn't finish.

-- The heroine sighed like a martyr before every other utterance. This is not attractive.
-- The hero slept with her, his BFF, for comfort after his breakup, then sent her off to the office and slept with her friend who dropped by!!! After this, he couldn't figure out why the heroine might possibly be upset with him.
--The heroine was pretty ladylike until she jumped into bed, when she immediately morphed into apparently a logger or some other manly type who yelled 'F--- me' over and over. I think this was supposed to be sexy. It wasn't.
--The heroine was too stupid to band together with all the other women in her office who were being sexually harassed by her boss to the point he tried to rape her one evening in the office. These women were supposed to be professional book editors in NY City, and they're this naïve?? I doubt it. Welcome to the 21st century, where we have laws in place to protect women so they don't have to put up with this. If they'd been illegal immigrants in a sweatshop, I might have believed it.
--The characters speech was robotic and analytical, with few contractions and big words that a psychologist would use to describe behaviors, but that normal 20-somethings definitely do not use in conversation with themselves or each other.
--The author let us know when characters were angry by putting their words ALL IN CAPS!! Because you know, we're too dumb to figure it out if she showed us this with descriptive words.
--The heroine lied to the hero, and her brother, both of whom cared about her. And you know, people do this, but this was in a way I just lost all respect for the character.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not my cup of tea ... November 16, 2013
By Sarah
Format:Kindle Edition
Scarlet and Sean are best friends. The kind that are there for one another no matter what. However, Scarlett has been harboring feelings for him, and those come into light as soon as he is dumped by the woman he loves. This is a story of crossing the lines of friendship and trying to rebuild the pieces when everything comes crashing down around you.

I wanted to like this story, I really did. It's right up my alley with the books that I normally read. However, I read the entire thing and didn't feel connected to a single character. They're all childish adults, and it made it hard for me to like them. As for the story itself, there were plenty of times where it was telling, when it should have been showing.

I gave this book 2 stars because it was just ok for me. It held enough of my interest that I was able to finish the story instead of tossing it to the side, and I'm grateful for that. Don't be discouraged by this review either. It may not have been my cup of tea, but that doesn't mean that you won't enjoy it!

**I was kindly given an ARC in return for an honest review. This review is based solely on this book, 'Only For You,' and in no way reflects my feelings on the author herself.**

1.0 out of 5 stars No. Just no. November 15, 2013
Format:Paperback
ARC provided by author for honest review. This is going to be BRUTALLY honest.

Oh lord. Where to start? This book was awful. Yep. Awful. The writing was really bad. The story centers around Scarlet who happens to be a copy editor. Yeah, she edits manuscripts. I found this totally ironic because this book is FULL of mistakes. Here are examples:

1. There is a character, "Brian", listed in the book. For several pages his name is "Brian", then suddenly it's "Bryan" and then goes back to "Brian". How do you not catch that?
2. Page 192, Scarlet tells Cortland that he's being "tentative" to her. Wrong. It's "attentive". Really?
3. TEN times the word "pretentious" is used. Overkill.
4. "Filament of imagination" is not a term. "Figment of imagination" is.
5. If you reference another book, you need to italicize it - i. e. Lord of the Rings. (see page 272)
6. If something is getting worse, it's not descending, it's ascending. (see page 289)

Then there were the sex scenes. No one describes how the "wall of her vagina" feels. Like ever.

The story was lacking and I didn't understand why everyone "loved" each other or were always say, "I love you" to each other. I thought that Scarlet sleeping with everyone (not in a sexual way) was flat out weird.

While I appreciated the author sending this to me and asking me for an honest review, I feel bad about being so brutal, but I feel in this case, it deserves it. I would certainly hope that her other books have been proofread, but I really don't want to find out.

1.0 out of 5 stars It's not MY fault you thought sex would change things! February 12, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I was hopeful that the few dissenting voices were wrong, but they weren't. I can sort of understand why people enjoyed the book, but not nearly enough to grant it 5* or love the characters the way they do.

There are SPOILERS in this review, because it's impossible to explain why the book is so disappointing without them.

Pros:
* I didn't notice a bunch of typos or grammar mistakes, but I also skimmed a few pages here and there.
* Scarlet stands up for herself and once she makes a decision, she sticks to her guns.
* She also looks at reality, as disappointing as it is, and does her best to accept it rather than scheme to change it.
* Her brother is too good to be true, but maybe we all want an older brother like that.
* Cortland (the semi-rebound guy she has two one-night stands with) is as impossibly perfect as her brother.
* Sean does eventually fly across the country to get her back, BUT this is canceled out below.

Cons:
* Sean is one of the worst "heroes" I've read about.
A. He thinks it's okay to have a one-night stand with his best friend and say nothing has changed.
B. It's then okay to boink his best friend's other best friend - this is NEVER okay, but especially not after sleeping with said best friend.
C. It's perfectly okay to get mad and yell at his best friend for misunderstanding that it was meaningless sex.
* Like her "best" girlfriend would seriously go after him anyway. That only works if she's supposed to be a b*tch.
* Scarlet seems to have no problem just lying down and sleeping next to anybody. Also, she sat on her brother's lap to tell him about her good news. It was just kind of weird.

More About the Author

My journey to this profession was slightly unorthodox. I received my bachelor's degree in biological sciences, worked as an award-winning researcher, and worked various jobs to pay the bills. While I enjoyed every moment of this adventure, it wasn't my passion. I've been writing since I was a young girl and have read anything that I can get my hands on. When people ask me what my favorite book is, I always respond, "All of them."

After I showed my work to my closest friends and gained their confidence, I realized that this is something I could commit my life to, something that I love. I never imagined--dreamed--that I could make a living as a writer. This is the greatest profession that I ever could have asked for, and I am so thankful for the support from everyone in my life. How many other jobs let you work in your pajamas?

I'm very grateful that I've had success with my various series. The Forever and Always Series is very close to my heart. I realize all the characters are fictitious, but in reality, they are real people living in my mind...as creepy as that sounds.

The Hawaiian Crush Series, The Essence Series, The Soul Saga, and the Southern Love Series are all also extensions of who I am, just played out in word. It's the greatest job in the world to explore different places and people and actually get to write about it. What makes it even better is when people love reading it.

When I receive fan mail through email, my website, or on Goodreads, I'm extremely flattered and humbled that people take the time out of their lives to compliment my work. I appreciate all the love and support. Without it, I would be nothing. I really would.

With an infinite number of ideas in my mind, I will continue to write as long as people wish. I'm just grateful I have such a wonderful audience.

People have asked me personal questions about my life. I'm flattered that people show any interest, especially since I'm not very interesting, but here are a few things you may not know about me:

I'm a lefty. But I also write upside down (not on the computer.) I'm pretty weird...

I hate strawberries but love them in my oatmeal.

I have an unusual obsession with dogs, cats, and all pets, but I don't own one...yet. Let's see what the hubby says.

I worked in a lab for a long time then became a high school science teacher. I loved my job very much, and adored my students. But writing is my dream job, and I was fortunate enough to pursue it.

My closest friends are the people I met in high school, but I've made even closer connections with peers from college. And now I'm fortunate enough to have some amazing author friends.

I love sweets. I love sweets. It's a sickness....

My favorite band (currently) is Mumford and Sons. I've placed a few of their lyrics in my novels because they are totally awesome.

Connected by the Sea (Hawaiian Crush #1) has some factual knowledge as a basis. Years ago, when my boyfriend took me to the aquarium, we stared at the seahorses for a long time. That's when he locked his pinky with mine and said, "Seahorses mate for life. Will you be mine?" Super cute! I know!

Only for You was originally called MegaShake. For those of you who've read it, you'll understand why.

And I don't share milk products with people...that's also something I incorporated into my books.

That's all I can think of...but that may have been too much information.

Thanks for all the support. You totally rule!(less)
