The book I wish I'd had 30 years ago,

This review is from: The Only Golf Lesson You'll Ever Need: Easy Solutions to Problem Golf Swings (Hardcover)
This could be the definitive modern instruction manual. Having read all the famous books from Ernest Jones to Hogan to Leadbetter and a lot of others in between, there is a lot of room for confusion. This book cleared the fog for me. Two things in the book are revelations: the body versus hands section and the discussion of the importance of the plane. I now feel for the first time in 30 years of golf that I have the comprehension framework to fix my own swing, slowly but surely, rather than trying this and trying that. Because it takes so long to get the feel for a swing change, unless you're on the right track, you can spend a whole golfing lifetime in the wilderness, going from one teacher to another, knowing you should be playing better but never really getting there. Thanks to this book, I can confidently analyse my own swing and, more importantly, know how to fix it. I sincerely hope this book gets the recognition it deserves. Brilliant Swing Concept,
By Jerry (Garden Grove, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Only Golf Lesson You'll Ever Need: Easy Solutions to Problem Golf Swings (Hardcover)
Hank Haney's concept of a swing traveling through a series of parallel planes is the most valuable golf idea I ever encountered. It changed everything for me. Now I have a really good swing that I understand. The strange thing is that nobody else writes about this concept. Other authors differ, writing about the club always pointing at the target line, or about a single pane of glass, or about a curved swing plane. However, Haney's concept makes tremendous sense and really works!

Best Golf Lesson Ever,

This review is from: The Only Golf Lesson You'll Ever Need: Easy Solutions to Problem Golf Swings (Hardcover)
Tiger Woods picked the right guy -- I am a 7 handicap and this is the best golf instruction book I have ever read (Nicklaus, Hogan, Woods, Watson, Harmon, Penick, Couples, Floyd, etc.). The one-plane angle concept is so technically sound and the only golf-aid you need to dramatically improve your swing is a mirror. Excellent pictures help capture exactly what Hank is explaining. At any level, this book is a cornerstone for building a bomb-proof golf swing. Most importantly, hit good shots and enjoy it -- instead of going to find it :)!

I have read many golf instruction books but this one by Hank Haney has to be one of the best. The photographs are very good and illustrate the principles discussed extremely well.I finally found a swing thought that controls my reverse pivot problem that often ruins my drive. The grip and alignment advice helped greatly the first time I went out on the course. If you only read one book on golf instruction, this is the one to buy.

Great book for troubleshooting,

This review is from: The Only Golf Lesson You'll Ever Need: Easy Solutions to Problem Golf Swings (Hardcover)
Excellent book for discovering the common flaws and how to correct them. I first read "Ben Hogan's Five Fundamentals". I would recommend it also, but Haney's book shows you the possible flaws creating your bad shots. Hogan tries to explain getting on plane for better shots, while very important, it doesn't give you immediate results.I have only been playing the game for 5 weeks. I'm now addicted. After reading Haney's book, I went out and broke 100 two days in a row and hit par for 3 holes in a row. I was usually a huge hack at 115 even though I went to the driving range at least 4 times a week and played 18 holes on the weekend. If someone is willing to commit to practice until their swing becomes more second nature, this book will help you straighten things out. As I swing the club more, I become more aware of what I am doing and realize my errors when Haney points them out. As with everything in life, there are no shortcuts, in order to be good and excel one must apply himself and practice, practice, practice.

Now I GET it!?!,

Fairly new golfer, got down into the low 80's without any lessons, but although I could drive fairly well (250ish) I couldn't hit an iron to save my life(5 iron 150 yards). I gave this book five stars, not because of it's brilliant "innovation" or anything like that, but when coupled with a pro who teaches in the same vein as this book, you can re-invent your game very quickly. I've added three clubs to my irons, (5 iron is now 195) and it's all because I teamed up with a pro at Hank Haney golf ranch, and read the book and reviewed on my off time. Took me 10 weeks, now I'm a 4 handicapper, and I owe it to my pro and the Hank Haney methodoligy. Change your ball flight, change your game.

haney needs to write another book. i think he does have a great understanding of the swing, but it doesn't come through at all in this book. he pretty much loses the reader in the first chapter and it only gets worse.
he opens by stating the goal of the swing is to keep the club on the same arc established by the shaft angle at address, but doesn't really explain why this is the objective and then proceeds to make a complete mess of trying to explain how to achieve this goal. Haney's best comments are saved for his TV color job - which at times can be very good - and I guess his work with Tiger Woods. for the rest of us, if you're looking for instruction on developing an on-plane swing try jim hardy's "plane truth."

Good All-Around Approach to Improving Your Swing,

Haney certainly is a John Jacobs disciple. The flight of the ball is the feedback mechanism that is sending feedback.Haney writes and teaches in a simple, straightforward manner that is easy to follow. Not so easy to execute, as we golfers know all too well. There are good sections on equipment, stance, shortgame, and cures. As good a start as this is, I don't think that for most players this replaces lessons with a good pro. I recommend highly the John Jacobs schools, where you get the best there is.

I disagree strongly with the various criticisms of this book. Disregard the title (which I think was an unfortunate choice). I have read dozens of golf books over the years, starting with Hogan's Five Fundamentals, and practically everything from all of the top instructors, and this is one is a gold mine of practical information about the golf swing.
This is not a beginner's book by any means. This book is more about understanding the components of a good swing and how your own swing stands in relation to such a swing. And frankly, while some consider some of his writing blatant self-promotion, I found his candor and directness refreshing. Finally, keep in mind this book was written before he started working with Tiger. His confidence comes from his own understanding of the swing and the direct results he has gotten from many students, not just Tiger.

Haney's book a masterpiece for educating you about the swing,

Hank Haney's book is the most knowledgeable golf instruction book I've ever read. It takes you step by step through the process of analzying your ballflight, then applying that to fix your swing. It also paints an amazingly clear picture of understanding a very misunderstood part of the swing; the swing plane. I would highly recommend this book to anyone trying to further their knowledge of the golf swing.
