Fabulous Story - Wonderful Addition to the Series, October 1, 2005
This review is from: Only With a Highlander (Mass Market Paperback)
When I decided to write reviews it was for a purpose - I LOVE to READ and if what I read really gives me pleasure - I wanted to let the world know! I am delighted to tell you ONLY WITH A HIGHLANDER, another chronicle in Janet Chapman's time-travel / fantasy series, is a prime example of why this makes it all worth while!
Winter MacKeage, resident artist on Tarstone Mountain, is the seventh daughter of Laird Greylen MacKeage a medieval Scot who had been transported to modern day Maine by a druid wizard [CHARMING THE HIGHLANDER - Jan'03]. The express purpose of the time-travel had been for Greylen to meet and marry a Grace, and father seven daughters, the seventh destined to be a very special woman - Winter. For the last 24 years, Winter's life had been somewhat normal if you could call growing up surrounded by `some' of the family secrets the family kept. In an effort to give Winter a normal upbringing her parents had withheld that one very special secret for as long as they could - until she reached the age of 25. According to the resident wizard, it would soon be revealed that Winter would hold the future of mankind in her hands and when that happened her life would never be the same.
At about the same time the feisty old wizard Fr. Daar sensed a shift in the energy surrounding the idyllic mountain they lived on, and pushed for Winter's parents to tell her of her destiny sooner. Before that happened another presence would enter Winter's life in the form of a very virile, wealthy, and handsome stranger, Matt Gregor. Sensing the magic in Winter's paintings as well as her fierce attraction to him - an attraction that was mutual on his part as well - Matt was determined to make her his and compel her loyalty to him by fair means or foul. Only time, which was fast running out, would tell if Matt was turning out to be Winter's demise or her destiny and would Winter's love be enough to help Matt restore hope to his aching heart.
*** I have been following Ms. Chapman's Highlander series since the very beginning and am continually impressed with the dazzling stories she has created along this theme of the time-transported MacKeage and MacBain clans. Her writing exemplifies all the elements I've come to expect from this fabulous series, from the sensual and emotional love stories that the displaced clan members experience, to the drama of their fights to battle evil foes, and the adventures and twists along the way. Winter's story was worth waiting for as this sensitive and extraordinary woman came into her own. Written with a sincere and loving hand that makes you `feel the love' this author again exceeds all levels in giving the reader an extraordinarily wonderful fantasy time-travel series that I highly recommend. --- Marilyn (...)

4 1/2 stars---More fun with Janet Chapman's time traveling warriors, October 30, 2005
This review is from: Only With a Highlander (Mass Market Paperback)
Fans of Janet Chapman won't be disappointed with Only With A Highlander. Finally, readers have the chance to read about Winter MacKeage, the seventh daughter of Greylen MacKeage, and the woman who holds a legacy of magic and power in her heart, unbeknownst to her.
When Winter is working at her art gallery, a strange man by the name of Matt Gregor comes in and commissions her to draw his house. Startled, but very attracted to the self-assured man, Winter isn't sure what to say. Matt is the owner of Bear Mountain and wants Winter's artistic talents to choose the spot for his new home on the mountain, along with a detailed picture of the house. He also wants Winter.
Winter has never felt so attracted to a man before. Matt is everything she could ever dream for in a man: loyal, honest, sexy, and equally attracted to her. However, he has some major secrets of his own. Secrets that involve Winter in ways she can't even begin to imagine.
At the same time, Father Pendaar needs Winter. Someone is draining his magic and it is time to awaken Winter to her destiny. There's no time for love when she has to save mankind, but Winter definitely doesn't see it that way. She's determined to have it all: love, Matt, and a bright future. But will she succeed?
WOW! Janet Chapman has done a great job of setting up Winter's story. Winter is a very fleshed out character, one who will touch your heart with her compassion, love of life, and her generosity. Her sparring with Matt is sweet and really ups the ante on their emotional bond. Matt is another great creation from the mind of Ms. Chapman. He's the consummate warrior, but he's not so Alpha male that he grates on your nerves. He has a mission but he soon comes to realize that meeting Winter has changed his plans...for the better.
As you watch their story unfold, you will be impressed by the lore and mythology that the author works into the story, along with the fascinating legacy that Winter has to uphold. Readers who have been dying for another Scottish story from this author won't be disappointed. The story is rich and complex with a strong plot and equally strong characters that keep the reader energized and glued to the pages. Don't pass this story up!

Great Book!, September 27, 2005
This review is from: Only With a Highlander (Mass Market Paperback)
This book was absolutely fabulous. It kept me on my toes the whole time I was reading it...and I couldn't put it down. Janet Chapman tells the story of Grey and Grace's youngest daughter, Winter MacKeage (first talked about in the first book of the Highlander series, Charming the Highlander) in this wonderful book. All of the characters you know and love from the first books are here again in this book and the addition of a couple of new wonderful (if not a little surprising) characters are seen. I think that Janet Chapman's books have only gotten better with each new installment and I look forward to many more. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants a good read to escape the "real-world" for a little bit.
