Missing Link Trilogy April 18, 2006
Christie and his friends continue their search for the missing link in the faraway Himalayas, where the answers may be found with the elusive and mysterious Yeti.
Their journey leaves Danny battling his overwhelming longing for the sea, and Danny's half-sister Sandy fighting for her father's approval. The experience will bring out the best and worst in the group and eventually compel each of them to ask the ultimate question: What does it mean to be human?

Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

Gr. 6-9. Fantasy and sf components again unite in the Missing Link trilogy's second entry, in which Christie and his stepbrother, Danny, who is part dolphin, join an expedition to find the yeti and trace human evolution. As in Fourth World (2005), talking animals introduce levity, but the ramifications of genetic tinkering loom large: frog-girl Sandy (who looks like "something out of a horror story") fiercely resents her progenitors, and Danny feels painfully torn between land and sea. Christie often seems a curiously distanced narrator, but the explorations of identity and science ethics will satisfy returning readers. Jennifer Mattson

This review is from: Only Human: Book Two in the Missing Link Trilogy (Hardcover)
Kate Thompson has written a couple of outstanding books, most notably "The New Policeman." Although this novel (and the entire Missing Link trilogy) are not as strong, the characters are appealing and the story line raises some interesting questions for young adult readers. The weakest part is the science, which is an unfortunate flaw in a story for which science (and scientists) are central to the plot. However, the ongoing narrative of a world in chaos (largely due to unavailability of fuel and the oppressive response of the British government, among others)sets a believable stage for the tale. Genetically-altered animals and humans attempt to discover the explanation of the great leap that separated humans from other primates. Readers who have enjoyed the first book will want to read this and the final installment. It all hangs together well.
