This review is from: Only Human: Book Two in the Missing Link Trilogy (Hardcover)
Kate Thompson has written a couple of outstanding books, most notably "The New Policeman." Although this novel (and the entire Missing Link trilogy) are not as strong, the characters are appealing and the story line raises some interesting questions for young adult readers. The weakest part is the science, which is an unfortunate flaw in a story for which science (and scientists) are central to the plot. However, the ongoing narrative of a world in chaos (largely due to unavailability of fuel and the oppressive response of the British government, among others)sets a believable stage for the tale. Genetically-altered animals and humans attempt to discover the explanation of the great leap that separated humans from other primates. Readers who have enjoyed the first book will want to read this and the final installment. It all hangs together well.
