Image of Biffy Clyro

The story of Biffy Clyro is as romantic as it is archetypal. Three childhood friends from Ayrshire formed a band, delivered three albums of abrasive youthful exuberance and finally cracked the big time when their fourth – 2007’s Puzzle – hit the charts at #2. By the time the promotion of their fifth album Only Revolutions had ceased, they were bona fide stars who could ... Read more in Amazon's Biffy Clyro Store

Editorial Reviews

2009 release, the fifth album from the Scottish Progressive Indie rockers. Here, they forgo the overt commercialism of Puzzle in favor of a return to their classic style: welding Emo-style structures to technically complex math- and jazzcore elements. Named for the novel by Mark Danielewski, produced once again by Garth Richardson (Gallows) and with striking cover artwork shot by the legendary Storm Thorgerson, the album includes the singles 'Mountains', 'The Captain' and 'That Golden Rule'. 14th Floor.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good, if not oddly constructed, album. July 17, 2010
Format:MP3 Music|Verified Purchase
I stumbled upon Biffy Clyro entirely by chance thanks to their song playing in the trailer for Charlie St. Cloud. After a little searching, I came upon this album. Only Revolutions is chock full of big hooks and clever lyrics, with song like 'Many of Horror' and 'The Captain' leading the way. However, I think it was put together a bit slap dash and there are tracks that just don't seem to belong. The pacing of the album is a bit thrown off, as can be seen in between 'Mountains' and 'Many of Horror'. Two great songs with huge emotion end up sandwiching the terrible and out of place 'Shock Shock'. The album has some incredible and honest music, but it feels like they might have missed out on an even better, cohesive experience.

5.0 out of 5 stars One Thing Is For Sure...Biffy Clyro Is A Really Good Band. September 10, 2012
Format:MP3 Music|Verified Purchase
I'll be honest, I didn't know about Biffy Clyro, until seeing them live at the Rockness Festival and they blew me away. A bit of Indie, a bit of grunge, pop, it's a nice mix of genres...but what I like the most about Biffy is their lyrics, the type that make you think for a split second....or take you away (Many of Horror).

As for other reviewers saying the different "moods" in the album are a bit off...I beg to differ, I like it when a band knows how to mix it up a bit. Albums that have the same stream through out, tend to get boring fairly quick. So Biffy Clyro did it right by my standards; of course, we all have different tastes and opinions.

Whatever your take is about this album in particular, one thing is for sure...Biffy Clyro is a really good band, so don't pass them up. Enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars So good November 18, 2011
Format:MP3 Music|Verified Purchase
Great hooks, strong pop sensibility with enough hardness to knock you off your chair every now and then. Elements of Kyuss, Foo, Jimmy Eat, and a little Scottish folkish flare, duct taped together in a very new way. Really a delicate balance. This is one of the best bands in the world right now. Saw them on festival live set on PLD and was stricken. Big Live Power Trio feel that is rare now. Must see them live.

5.0 out of 5 stars BIFFY RULES OK !!!!!!! July 25, 2011
Format:Audio CD
I'm 60 years old and play guitar as well as being a BLUES / GUITAR nut.....I stumbled on BIFFY by accident and would normaly have dismissed it as it is not in the genres I like.....I would have missed some of the best music going around today.....this is a classic rock cd that might well be in a timecapsule as the best this era has to favourite bands are KINGS'X and MOE and these young scots are at least their equal....the hooks are irresistable....the lyrics intelligent and original and even my better half who rarely sees eye to eye with me in things music, loves this band.....the FOOFIGHTERS should be supporting this band and not the other way around.....why they are not the biggest band in rock today is a mistery....if there is justice, they soon will be !!

5.0 out of 5 stars Just gets better and better May 25, 2011
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Wow! I liked this CD the first time I played it but it just gets better with every listen. Lots of new sections seem to keep appearing in each song. I also love the way Simon Neil's vocal style changes between each song and even within a song.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous April 2, 2011
By Kristin
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Love this album. The songs do not sound the same (like many albums). Also many songs start of very different than how they end. I love this album from Biffy Clyro. They are excellent in concert as well. A great band from Scotland and worth listening to.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great follow-up to Puzzle August 12, 2014
Format:Audio CD
Kilmarnock-based indie rock band Biffy Clyro has surprised us with another studio album: “Only Revolutions”. With a front cover layout similar in vein to that of Pink Floyd, but with a similar similar to that of their previous album “Puzzle”, the Scots has put out an album that keeps going with the wonderful, weird, original and energetic performance of its predecessor. The opener The Captain, That Golden Rules and Bubbles are the tracks that kick this album off. Bubbles is my favorite track on this disc. Then, they suddenly changed to a more melodic sound on God and Satan, only to return toto their energetic sound on Born On A Horse, Mountains and Shock, Shock. Many of Horror is more melodic and softer than the previous tracks. Boom, Blast and Ruin and Cloud of Stink put the band back into the energetic path. Know Your Quarry follows the same path as Many of Horror, while Whorses closes the disc ona higher note. So, if you love Puzzle, you will certainly love this one. Only Revolutions is a huge winner. So, I highly recommend it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Mon the Biff! January 3, 2014
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
The first Biffy song I ever heard was Mountains. My life has never been the same. This album represents Biffy Clyro's maturation. On this album, they demonstrate that they are diverse, talented, and generally epic. This album is more refined than Puzzle, but has plenty of hard songs and plenty of gusto. They have done what few bands have been able to do--they have made themselves more broadly accessible, while simultaneously maintaining their personality, style, and creativity. This album is easily one of my top ten of all time. It might make my top five.

Biffy Clyro is a great band and I wish I had invested in their music sooner. They have a unique sound and I find it refreshing amongst everything else produced these days.

Newer sound is great but has fallen away from their Math Metal sound of earlier days. I prefer puzzle or Opposites to this album, but still love it
