About the Author

Yoram Lubling's entire Spring '09 American Philosophy class wrote lengthy essays related to Ralph Waldo Emerson. The ten students presented in this book were selected by Dr. Lubling for publication in this book. At the time of writing, they were all undergraduate students at Elon University. Yoram Lubling, who wrote the introduction and taught the class, is the author of Twice-Dead (2007), as well as numerous book chapters and journal articles on classical American philosophy, John Dewey, Martin Buber, active pedagogy, aesthetics, Holocaust studies, Jewish philosophy, and the history of Modern Zionism. Anthony Weston, who contributes a poem and is also a professor in the Philosophy Department, is the author of A 21st Century Ethical Toolbox (2001), A Rulebook for Argument (3rd ed. 2000), An Invitation to Environmental Philosophy (1998), A Practical Companion to Ethics (1997), Back to Earth: Tomorrow's Environmentalism (1994), and Toward Better Problems: New Perspectives on Abortion, Animal Rights, the Environment, and Justice (1992).
