Billy Paul holds a unique place in Philadelphia International Records' history. Why? During the label's early years he brought a certain degree of class and sophistication to the "Philly Sound" thanks to his strong Jazz and MOR-Pop vocal roots. This superb compilation includes his final three releases for P.I.R. along with extensive liner notes from the very knowledgeable Tony Rounce. These albums were not among Billy's strongest sellers but all three are wonderful examples of the best 1970s R&B had to offer from one of Soul Music's elder statesmen.

OH WOW,all of my favourite BILLY PAUL songs except "ME AND MRS JONES" are all here on this wonderful set, you are getting three classic albums for the price of one!!,"LET 'EM IN", "ONLY THE STRONG SURVIVE" and "FIRST CLASS" are all here and I love it!!. Intimatly and socially concious songs abound.
FAVOURITE songs are: "WORD SURE GETS AROUND",so sweet,so sad. "ONLY THE STRONG SURVIVE",that's true!. "EVERYBODY'S BREAKING UP", "BRING THE FAMILY BACK" a strong message!. The one that really touches me is "WHAT A WAY TO LOVE" the vocal and instrumental arrangement is perfect!. something about "YOUR'E MY SWEETNESS" that have me swaying, the song is nice!. People love different things, people love different songs, I love lot's of things, I love lot's of songs,including BILLY PAUL'S songs and so will you!!!. I recomend this set, it's three times as good!!. |
