A compelling work by author Jorge Luis Seco! Jorge Luis Seco, a Cuban born author who now lives in New Jersey, tells a moving tale of desire's forced beneath the surface because of family, religion and inner fear. His moving coming out story of Jose Lopez, a young up and coming attorney, takes the reader through a world perhaps all too familiar to many gay people, but one that captivates the reader through fascinating characters and superb story telling. Seco studied at the University of Havana, Cuba before being granted permission to leave the country as an accused homosexual. Finally able to leave Cuba, he lived in Spain before relocating to the United States. His story of Jose Lopez in many ways tells his own story though he sets his novel in fiction. Forced to live with a dominating woman believed to be his mother, Jose is blessed to have a sympathetic sister in Margot, who is able to see the Jose beneath the surface. When Jose is asked to take on the case o! f a young man, Tom, falsely accused of drug trafficing, it is Margot who at once sees the love and affection Jose feels for Tom, even before he can recognize it for himself. When through his close friends Bob and Rene, Jose begins to socialize within the gay world, he is amazed to see many of his long held and religious based perceptions shattered. As he slowly realizes that two men can share meaningful, loving relationships, it is Margot who helps lead him through the journey with sisterly love and concern.
