Wendi wants her junior year to be her best ever, and that means getting Rod to notice her. Her best friend Tracy suggests that Wendi rebel against a biology project that requires the class to mount and label dead bugs. Wendi, who has always been fond of butterflies, starts a Save the Butterflies campaign, which antagonizes the teacher. Rod notices Wendi and asks her out, but she isn't as thrilled as she thought she would be. Her neighbor and old friend Jeff starts dating a cheerleaderwhy didn't she notice how cute he had become? Diehard romance fans will find this likable fare, but will not find any surprises. The butterfly theme quickly wears thin, especially when the heroine answers the question "What kind of butterfly are you, butterfly girl?" with "I don't know. Maybe I'm still a caterpillar." Readers may end up laughing out loud. Ages 12-up.

More About the Author

Ann H. Gabhart started writing when she was ten and has been writing ever since. Her first published writings were personal experience pieces, youth stories, and poems in church periodicals such as HomeLife. Her first novel, a historical romance about the settling of Kentucky, was published by Warner Books in 1978. Since then, she's published numerous books for both adults and young adults. The Scent of Lilacs, her first inspirational novel, was chosen as one of the Top Ten Books in Christian Fiction in 2006 by Booklist magazine. Her first Shaker book, The Outsider, was a finalist for Christian Fiction Book of the Year in 2009 and was a Top Pick by Romantic Times Book Review Magazine.
