What a tangled web...,
By Jackie M "jaibeem" (Jacksonville, Florida) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Only True Love Waits (Paperback)
A true love store between man and woman & parents & child. This is a quick read suspenseful, fast paced, love story. Xavier is in love with Summer but his love runs so deep that he is willing to let her go to spare her his tragic situation. Ryan is in desparate need of love and searches out Summer to find it. As the tale is unspinning, you learn how all characters are connected without knowing it. You understand the love that binds family and the true love between soulmates. You also understand that decisions made early in life all have to come to light and even when things become tragic, it is all done in the name of love. Love also means forgiveness and wounds will have to be mended. This was a fast paced, straight to the point, in your face, not sure how it was going to unravel and hard to figure out before hand where the author was taken you. I really enjoyed it and think that Dwan Abrams did a great job.

You Can't Rush Perfection,
By OOSA Online Book Club "O.O.S.A. Gets It Read!" (World Wide Web, USA) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE)
This review is from: Only True Love Waits (Paperback)
"Only True Love Waits" opens with Xavier Robert, an aspiring rapper, being diagnosed with testicular cancer. Distressed with the news he was given at the doctor's office, he immediately rushes and breaks his wedding engagement to Summer Love the day before her grand opening of her company, Spa Nevaeh. The story follows Summer, a devout Christian, as she tries to pick up the pieces and move on. At her grand opening, she is pursued by Ryan Kennedy, a CEO of a record label with a dark past. Romance blossoms, but in the meantime, Xavier is going through the last of his treatments and trying to reconcile. Will Summer realize her love for Xavier is still alive and give it second chance? Will Ryan reveal his dark side?
The storyline was very good and so was the plot, but the story was too rushed and bounced from scene to scene. Characters are at one place in time and then you turn the page and it's like three weeks later. Then you turn two more pages and you're somewhere else. I would have liked if the author had followed more on Xavier as he battled cancer and going through the treatments alone and all. It would give the readers a better understanding of his character as well as understanding why he did what he did. Summer's character needed to be developed more because I absolutely could not relate to her or her emotions. I felt confused in some of the scenes and unbelieving in others. I think this novel could have been good with a little more time and effort. "Only True Love Waits" is a promising novel, but in it's current state, I give it 3.5 stars. Reviewed by: Cikeithia

Now, this book that I just finished reading was a great book. I orginally held back reading it until after Valentine's Day because I thought it was going to be a really mushy love story. (Sorry Dwan) Don't get me wrong, I love the mushy love stories, just wasn't feeling the love! LOL
But this book wasn't mushy like I thought. This was Dwan Abrams book titled "Only True Love Waits". She had a serious love story going on, yet it dealt with real realtionship issues. Issues that affect many in the world. It's a story of love, realtionships between mates, friends and family. I love how she showed the high moral standards of the main character, Summer. It was constantly bought up throughout the story. She let you see who the people truly are and where they came from. The book started off with a 'bang'! I loved how in the end you found out just how all of her characters were connected. I must say this novel inspired many feelings of love, shock, surprise, hurt and even to some point anger. She used great descriptions when describing their emotions and feelings when things happened to each of the characters in the story! Great work!! Thank You Dwan for sharing your work!!!!!

"Only True Love Waits is an interesting read that is suspenseful and spiritual."
"Summer Love is devastated when Xavier Roberts ends their engagement. Unbeknownst to her, Xavier has been diagnosed with a serious illness and chooses to keep it a secret." "Summer can't understand why Xavier cancelled their wedding. She wants answers but decides not to pursue them. She doesn't want to feel like she is throwing herself at someone who doesn't want to be committed to her." "Xavier has surgery and after rigorous medical treatment his doctors tells him that he is healed. He reenters Summer's life and tells her the truth about his illness, only she has moved on and now is dating Ryan Kennedy, who happens to be the CEO of the record label that signed Xavier as a rap artist." Unfortunately, when she informs Ryan of her decision, he doesn't take their reunion to well and this sets the stage for a series of events that alters lives. A murder and kidnapping occurs and a hidden family secret is brought to light." "This intriguing story will entice readers with surprising revelations."

Family Secrets can be Deadly!,

This review is from: Only True Love Waits (Paperback)
Author Dwan Abrams writes a delightful tale of romance, mystery, murder, family secrets and deception. She will have readers guessing as to where the story will take them next in her book "Only True Love Waits". She captures so many of the issues dealing with dysfunctional families. Her story explores incest, rape, abandonment, adoption, siblings, alcoholism, along with some important mother/son and mother/daughter relationship issues.
She gets the reader involved about her characters early on by gibing them lots of "life". They are not cardboard after thoughts of the author but fleshed out `real people" that you can sense a feel some emotions for. It makes the storyline and the plot work well. The dialog is perfect and first well with the movement of the action. Ms. Abrams obviously has a talent for writing and it shows. The book will appeal to lovers of romance and mystery novels. I think women will love this book because the author gives us such strong female lead characters. The story is good entertainment and can be read in a single sitting. It is 150 pages of action and emotions; and it makes a good powerful combination. The story is more than just a love story and deeper than just a romance novel. There are social issues that Abrams deals with like church attitudes, family values and even puts some light on the value of being a virgin. The book gets The American Authors Association (AAA) highest book rating of FIVE STARS. It also receives my personal endorsement.

Awesome Love Story,

This review is from: Only True Love Waits (Paperback)
Dwan Abrams's first inspirational romance novel Only True Love Waits reels you in from the first page, causing you to sit with your eyes glued to the pages with the desire to know what will happen next. She brings life to each character with her extensive vocabulary and colorful descriptions.
The book starts out with one of the main characters discovering that he has testicular cancer, causing him to decide to cancel his wedding. However, he fails to explain the actual reason for his decision, causing confusion and feelings of rejection by his "ex" fiance. She in turn deals with her hurt by delving into the opening of her new company where she meets a young man who pursues her romantically. During their courtship she finds out many of his dark secrets that eventually lead to deadly consequences. Dwan is able to catch the reader totally off guard with the various twists and turns that are included in her novel. Just when you think you have the plot figured out, she hits you with another surprise. She ties everything in at the end of the book leaving you with a satisfied smile on your face, having left no questions unanswered. This is a great book and I look forward to Dwan's next project.

Love and suspense combined!,

This review is from: Only True Love Waits (Paperback)
What a tangled web we weave in Dwan Abrams latest novel, Only True Love Waits. The story begins with Xavier Roberts receiving bad news - he has cancer. To spare his fiancée, Summer Love, the trauma of enduring his medical treatments, he ends their engagement! Being the brilliant and successful woman she is, Summer finds comfort in the arms of the handsome Ryan Kennedy. Of course, all is not what it seems with this rap music mogul. As it turns out, Ryan has just signed a fledgling rap artist who is well-known to the Love family. The twists and turns in the tale will undoubtedly keep the page turning at a frantic pace.
Abrams not only does a compelling job with the plot, but her dialogue particularly between Summer, her best friend, Nina and Nina's husband, Jeff, will not only make the reader feel as though she is sitting at the table with the group, but will also bring a smile to her face. It's down-to-earth, everyday banter that readers will relate to. |
