Book Description

Pet groomer Carina Fiore wants nothing more than to confess her feelings to the man she loves. She's drawn to veterinarian Cameron McKenzie's good looks, caring nature and especially his devotion to his young daughter. But he's also her boss and a good friend. Putting her heart on the line could cost Rina both her job and their friendship forever.

Since his divorce, Cameron hasn't been willing to trust his heart--or his daughter--with anyone else. For months he's pushed away all thoughts of taking Rina in his arms and kissing her, unwilling to risk their friendship for a single night of pleasure. But when a kiss under the mistletoe unlocks the simmering passion between them, Rina and Cameron may just find love for the holidays after all...
An ebook exclusive Fool's Gold series novella.

Editorial Reviews

From the Author

There's a very interesting story behind ONLY US. On April 1, 2010, we celebrated April Fool's Gold Day on my Facebook page. At that time, none of the Fool's Gold books had been released yet, but my fans were happy to celebrate, anyway. (I love that about you!) I invited fans to create a character who would have a speaking role in a future Fool's Gold book. I honestly thought that I would give the character only a walk-on part, but the character they created - Cameron McKenzie, the new Fool's Gold veterinarian - turned out to be so intriguing that I had to write a book for him.

We started with nothing. Fans voted on the character's gender, age, occupation, back story, name... and they even gave Cameron an adorable daughter named Kaitlyn and a dog named Noah. Noah is a girl, by the way - yep, my fans came up with that, too!

4.0 out of 5 stars Another Fool's Gold Hit November 6, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Review from [...]

Another Fool's Gold Hit!! This Sweet Holiday Novella gives us a look intot he life of Cameron, our very handsome Vet, and his "Friend" Rina, the pet groomer.

Rina has been in love with Cameron since the first day she saw him a year ago, but the love she has for his daughter is special to Rina and she doesn't want to do anything to threaten their relationship, so she knows that she can't tell Cameron that she is in love with him. Then she gains the courage on night to tell him the truth and things don't end up exactly how she planned. Will these two end up together in time for Christmas?? I think you will have to read the book to find out!!

This was a quick read for me. The story took us on a sleigh ride of friendship, love, heartbreak and overcoming fear. It is a sweet, little Holiday read that will warm your heart. A little hit chocolate for the soul, as only Susan Mallery can do! Enjoy!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Cute story, but problematic for this reviewer December 31, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
WARNING: Spoiler alert!

Carina Fiore has lived in Fool's Gold all her life. Working as a pet groomer for veterinarian Cameron McKenzie, Rina has become obsessed with the single father and his adorable eight-year-old daughter. She longs to tell Cameron she's in love with him but hesitates until spurred on by her friend Beth.

Cameron is happy with his life. He loves his practice, is devoted to his daughter and counts himself lucky to have a good friend in Rina. Not only does she work with him, she also helps get his daughter dressed for school and cooks dinner for them. Even though he has fleeting moments when he'd like to be more than a friend, he isn't about to spoil the relationship he has. After all, his experience with loving a woman resulted in that woman walking out on him and his newborn daughter.

But when Rina declares her feelings, Cameron is blind sided. He cannot risk losing her so he says he wants only friendship. That's not enough for Rina and she begins the painful process of moving on.

I wanted to like this story more than I did. Ms. Mallery is a wonderful writer and I've loved other Fool's Gold stories, however, I couldn't buy Cameron's excuse for keeping Rina at arm's length, and I bought even less his abrupt change of heart. Only Us is a charming story with likable characters (even Cameron, despite my desire to hit him over the head to knock some sense into him). The pacing is great for a novella and Mallery's skills are evident. I just couldn't accept the "I only want a, wait, I love her" ending.

5.0 out of 5 stars a perfect taste of Fools Gold November 11, 2011
By M. Dana

It's so good to be back in Fools Gold and catch up with people! Only Us is a charming story, warm and romantic. Love the Christmas pet adoption idea, although I'm glad they didn't decorate the iguana! This novella might just be the perfect pre-Christmas escape.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you like romance and family this writer is for you. November 6, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Susan Mallery has proven yet again that if you mix interesting characters with an exciting romance, throw in some family dynamics, and stir gently, you will have a story that will not only touch the heart, but, warm your soul. I love the strong characters who live in Fool's Gold. You will too. I read my first book out of order, and then had to go back and read ALL of them from the beginning, as I wanted to know the full story about the many ongoing story lines. You can't go wrong with this series.

Only Us: A Fool's Gold Holiday is another hit for Susan Mallery! A great holiday to put you in the Christmas spirit. I'm a little prejudiced though, luckily I am one of the cheerleaders the book is dedicated to!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fool's Gold Holiday January 7, 2012

Very upset that you can only get this on Kindle, there are a lot of readers out there who do not own them yet! This is an excellent book & it is unfair that many of your readers will be deprived of it because they do not or will not own a Kindle or similar reading devices. I was only recently converted over myself!

4.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful Fool's Gold novella/short story. January 1, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
If there's one thing that's made my 2011, it's the fact I have found myself a brand new author to look forward to. Susan Mallery isn't an author I've ever read until 2011, but when I saw Only Yours on Netgalley I requested it and it was an utterly amazing novel. I then read Only His and it's just an awesome series and it's so nice to have tried and loved Mallery. So I was thrilled to see a Christmas Short Story available set in Fool's Gold and it was a really cute, really quick read.

Cameron McKenzie is the vet for Fool's Gold and since his wife walked out on their baby daughter, he's gone solo, and 9 years later, that works for him. Rina Fiore works at Cameron's vets' as the resident pet groomer and has been in love with Cameron for a year, and already feels close to his daughter since she looks after her every day, so it seems only natural that Rina tells Cameron of her feelings... But his reaction stuns her, and she finds herself wishing she hadn't risked her feelings after all, especially since its the holiday season.

It'll take you only minutes - about 10 or 15 - to complete Only Us. Yes, it's a short story and it's SHORT (would you believe me if I told you there was a review on Amazon that complains it's short? There really is and it makes me wonder what they expect from a "SHORT story"). However, it's a short story I thoroughly enjoyed. In the short time we were with Rina, Cameron and his daughter Kaitlyn, I felt like we really got to know them. I felt warmed by the tale, and although I won't say it was too short (it was not), I could have happily read a full-length novel to feature the three of them because they made an impression even if it was such a short time we knew them.
