'Only' is a heartwarming, enduring, and, at times, funny account of life, love and family as seen through the eyes (and the heart) of a dog named Only. Winston Groom uses beautiful yet simplistic language without having the need to make the dog actually talk. You feel what Only feels by his experiences and his reactions to them. Groom takes you into the heart and mind of what is truely man's best frined. The story moves quickly but without sacrificing any grace. Once you read 'Only' you'll never be able to call your dog just a "dog" again.... read this with your dog curled up next to you so he's there when you need to give him a hug.

A fantastic book that any animal lover is sure to appreciate. Can easily be read in one afternoon. A box of tissues is a prerequisite to this very touching, sometimes funny look at life through a dog's eyes.

A wonderful story of a dog's life. It takes a look at a pup's adventure of life to old age. Winston Groom's wonderful writing style takes you from the eyes of Only to that of those around him. A must read for all!

It is a great book that I couldn't put down! I will read it over and over again and it is sure to be one of my favorites for life!

I loved this book and bought copies for my friends. Only, the dog is the Forest Gump of dogs. My sons, 10 and 12 read it too and enjoyed it.

You can read this in one sitting, but don't! You'll want to savor it. In simple terms, it's the story of a dog and his adventures. Written in simple prose that moves along steadily, the book will be one you'll remember long after you've finished reading it. I'm an avid reading, rarely reading a book more than once, but this is one I come back to time and again. You'll love Only, you'll feel what he feels, and you'll be cheering him on at the end! And what an end! (don't you dare cheat and read the last chapter first--it will lose it's impact.) I'd give this 10 stars if I could.

This is the second of Winston Groom's books that I have had the pleasure to read. This one is a heartwarming look at a truly unique canine. You worry with him, you cry for him, and you rejoice in his many escapades.
The ending is a hoot!!!!!
I recommend it to all, not just dog lovers. Also, take a different look
at this author, and his version of WWII and read "1942" Exceptional!

I have been an avid reader since childhood. There are many books I will never forget and Only will be added to the list. There have been books written about the "coming of age" for young boys;Only is a "coming of age" for dogs. A delightful read.
