I began with the first book in the series, only his and then had to get the other three books from the library. I was confused as to the order of the books because it said nothing about which book came first, second, third and forth. This is the third in the series and I finished all three of the last books in four days! The characters are wonderful and I get so caught up in the story that I loose track of the day. Many times I felt like thumping Reno in the head. Eve was wonderful because she was so strong in such a hard time for her. I love the way the characters were reunited in each one of the books. I felt like part of the family coming home to them all.

5.0 out of 5 stars Appealing characters; exciting plot; steamheated romance!, February 6, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Only You (Mass Market Paperback)
This was the first book I ever read by Elizabeth Lowell, even though it is not the first in her series of novels about the Moran family. Wow, was I hooked! The characters steal your heart, the plot is exciting and even believeable, and Reno and Eve generate a steamheated romance that is incredibly passionate and tender. Eve's sacrifice and Reno's revelation--and subsequent sincere remorse and expression of love--at the story's climax tug at the heartstrings and make a highly satisfying conclusion. This series is populated by characters who truly come alive, and about whom we come to care very much.

4.0 out of 5 stars Formula, April 28, 2008

I have read the whole "only" series. They follow a formula. Tough, abusive male, innocent abused heroine. He always thinks the worst of her, mistreats her, has sex with her. She falls in love and lets him. They misunderstand something the other one did. They separate. He comes after her. They reunite and live happily ever after having kids.

Having said all that. I must have like something about them because I did read them all. After the males understand they are caught, they start behaving themselves. Nobody said this was like real life. Perhaps that is what I like - the escape from reality.

This series is recommended for just that - escape and happy endings.

5.0 out of 5 stars A series I read over and over, June 28, 2006
This review is from: Only You (Mass Market Paperback)
When I run out of new things to read and go to my bookshelf for a classic, I always find myself picking up the "Only" series. Even though I usually prefer contemporary romance, these are some of my favorites, because Lowell makes you care about the characters not just through one book, but through six. (I'm including Autumn Lover and Winter Fire in that count.) These are heros to fall for in any era, and heroines that the reader can respect, which can be tough to find in historicals. One piece of advice - before you start reading these, stock up on biscuits. KFC, Pillsbury, doesn't matter; once you start this series, you will have a craving for buttermilk biscuits.

Reno was a - I don't know if they ever said what his profession was and Eve was a orphan - end of story. Mrs Lowell is a great writer and her books are fairly good, this one fell flat for me but at the same time was not a complete waste of a read. So if you have nothing else to read give it a try you might like it better that me.

2.0 out of 5 stars Crooked poker, lost gold mine, outlaws hunting you, February 24, 2007

All the makings of a great western. We've got the crooked poker game between saloon girl, outlaws and a loner gunslinger. Map to a lost gold mine. A ranch in the foothills of the Colorado mountains, a trek through indian country, and beautiful descriptions of the land.

Unfortunately, we're saddled with a good secondary character of past novels turned into an abusive, idiotic Alpha hero and a sympathetic heroine who is as strong defending herself as milktoast. Reno's interest in gold only comes after her blackmails Eve into telling him about the gold mine, under the threat of raping her because he wants her. She keeps telling him she's a virgin, an orphan and former bond servant. His refusal to accept that leads to much pain and hardship for her. And yet, this doormat heroine forgives him for it all.

The final straw for me came in the end. Reno's desire to "protect" her from a crumbling mind yet dig gold himself, inadvertantly left Eve alone and trapped in the camp with a bunch of gold bars and outlaws waiting to storm them, rape her and steal the gold. Then when she does the heroic thing to save him, he still distrusts her.

Eve should have gone off with her share of the gold, set up in some fancy city back east, raised the baby they inevitably made, and forced Reno to grovel at her feet for a year trying to get back in her good graces. He clearly wasn't a man worthy of any woman's trust. Just another randy fool.

The only thing saving this story is the lush description of the landscape and gold hunting. And the brief appearances of far better couples in the Only series: sister Willow & her husband Caleb, and Wolfe & Jessi.

Go read the first two novels in the Only series. Caleb and Wolfe at least deserve their women.

2.0 out of 5 stars Repetitive and predictable, June 20, 2010

The premise of the "innocent" girl wagering herself in a card game seemed promising, but it went real flat real fast. I dont believe I've ever read this author before so why did I already feel like I'd read the book? It's got a very standard plot, cookie cutter characters, and little to no character development---basically everything you think is going to happen happens, only I found this author's version of the story to be a little more nauseating than usual (the heroine is a sachharine Mary-Sue who basically lets the hero walk all over her). I dunno, I guess some people prefer it that way, but I also had more trouble than usual getting through all those long drawn out repetitive love scenes. I'd recommend Elizabeth Thornton's books over this (for some reason this book made me want to read her instead).

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful!, September 7, 2009
This review is from: Only You (Mass Market Paperback)
This is the first in a 4-book series, Only You, Only Mine, Only His, and Only Love...
I HIGHLY recommend ALL of these books for anyone who loves to fall into a love story and come out the other in with tears in their eyes. This was my second time reading this book, and I soon followed it with the other three. I can't say enough, how beautiful this book is...besides falling in love, you will "see" the great old west of the the mid-late 1800's...
...Enchanting and heart-warming...onece you read this one,you won't be able to live without reading the other three! Enjoy!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved it!, December 30, 2008
This review is from: Only You (Mass Market Paperback)
Spoiler warning;)
This is the second Lowells book I've read, and I liked it as much as the first one (Only his), even though the story of both book is almost the same. But I loved it anyway. I liked the spunky heroine. She was honest, spoke her mind, brave, etc, and all this without becoming unreasonably stubborn as heroines in other books often do. And Reno... Yummy:) I liked him in Only his, and he is the reason I read this book before Only mine, which is next on my must-read list. What I didn't like about him, anyway, was the fact that he never believed in Eve, no matter what she said or did, and even in the end, he suspected the worse of her. She should make him beg a bit more when he came crawling after her;)
I liked it that the characters from other books appeared in the story, and it was done so well, they fitted in the story perfectly, not like in some other books, where the story becomes too crowded by all the previous heroes.
I read this book in one afternoon. A great read, I would recommend it to anyone who wants to read a refreshing romance set in wild west. It is great to read such a book after all of the stories that take place in London or England in general. And it makes you want to go and see all the places and mountains and everything that is described in the story.
And the sentence that made me laug out loud: Who's goona play the trout now?? LOL:)
Go and buy this book! You won't be sorry!
