The love story of Botolf and the "firey" Saxan was very romantic and funny at the same time. I tried this, my 1st HH, as it isn't part of a series: (yet :)

The couple suffers the usual 'he can't admit he loves her.'
His first wife dallied w/ his cruel half-brother. And he has
images of women all being like the shallow ladies at court.

Saxan is a level-headed Tomboy. In the beginning she thinks Botolf killed her twin brother...

5.0 out of 5 stars Only For You By Hannah Howell, August 2, 2000

This was one of the best books I have ever read. All of the characters have life. The situations in the book are believable and exciting. Saxan Honey Todd is a strong female character who is more than capable of standing by her man. Botolf Corwine Lavington is a strong leader and protector. He possesses the ability to appreciate and accept help and advice from a woman. I literally could not put this book down.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of my favorite stories from Hannah Howell!, August 25, 2008

(VINE VOICE)
Only You was one of my first Hannah Howell books. I absolutely adored this book and all the characters in it.

It starts with Saxan Honey Todd out to avenge the (supposed) death of her twin by the hand of the new Earl of Regenford, Botolf Lavington. This wild young hellion stalks him to the inn where he and his men are enjoying a good meal and good ale and attacks him. He at first mistakes her for a boy, for she certainly fights as well as one, but when he realizes his mistake, he is intrigued. He has known betrayal from women and he wonders if Saxan is different. If she is lacking in many of the feminine ways, is she also lacking their faults? He watches her during the journey back to Regenford. He is unable to hide his growing desire and his mother, Saxan's uncle and even his closest friends notice his interest and watch avidly as the cold, proud earl starts to open up to the refreshingly honest, impish Saxan Honey Todd. Back in Regenford however, before he can claim her as his bride, an old flame comes back and tries to wheedle the very question out of him that he's trying to ask Saxan. Luckily Saxan is no retiring young miss. She sees the other women for exactly what she is and accepts Botolf's proposal happily and looks forward to the bedding with glee. Just when things are looking as perfect as could be, those unknown assassins come back with a vengeance. Now they are targeting both Botolf and Saxan, for as the possible mother of his heir, she must be eliminated before the one hunting Botolf can get his prize. That was their mistake, for as long as they were just after Botolf, he was willing to meet their challenges one on one, patiently trying to ascertain his enemy. Once their murderous reach touches Saxan, Botolf sets off on the hunt, off to protect the woman who has given him his life back and filled it with love.

I really liked this book. Saxan was as impish as any mischievous young lady could be yet she never got annoying. She was extremely intelligent and was no shrinking violet. She stood side by side Botolf, both on the battlefield and in the bedroom. It's always nice to read about a lady who isn't terrified of what she'll find in the marriage bed, in fact Botolf is more afraid than her. The legend surrounding the Todd family was also very amusing. The Todd family were known as fierce warriors who were also fierce conquerors in the bedroom and it was funny to watch Saxan's uncle and cousins, flirt their way into as many bedrooms as they could.

I highly recommend this Hannah Howell book and can only hope she revisits this charming family. She left a possible opening for the romance between Sir Bretton Graeme and Saxan's little sister, Thylda. I really liked those two together and would love to read their story.

Saxan is a level-headed Tomboy. In the beginning she thinks Botolf killed her twin brother. Botolf is the sexy Lord w/ a
bastard half-brother who wants Botolf (and everyone else around him) dead. No real mystery here, which was fine;
it was entertaining enough. Good characters.

I plan to read her Highlander series.

I don't often read romance novels but I really enjoyed this one. Ms. Howell makes you really feel as if the characters are alive. You want them to be happy. Ms. Howell has obviously done her homework for the time period as well. It is very believable. I highly recommend this book!

5.0 out of 5 stars LOVE HANNAH HOWELL, March 26, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I've read this book before, as I read every book she writes. Since I'm 77 and so are my eyes, I can now enjoy re-issued books on my Kindle because of being able to set the type. This book is an exciting one and a page turner, and the H/H are a perfect couple. I especially have enjoyed the 'IF HE'S' series and look forward to the next soon to be on my Kindle.I can't tell someone else what to read, but I can recommand this book and any other book by Hannah Howell.

5.0 out of 5 stars Historical Love story, September 6, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Hannah Howell never fails to write an interesting highland story. To me her books are topnotch. The stories flow and are easy reading. There is just enough sex to keep it interesting. I find it hard to read a book that sex is on every other page. They may have had more stamina in those days but ,they must of tired eventually.
I also like having the descrition of the hero and heroine told no more than a couple of times. To hear he is handsome and she is beautiful repeatedly wears thin. To me that is just page fillers.
The story itself was different being as the mean half brother was after the hero instead of the heroine. I'm glad I purchased the book . I enjoyed it.

You just can't go wrong with Hannah Howell. I have 15 of her books on my shelves and am always searching for more. You don't even have to look at them...if you don't already have it...get it. She gives you your money's worth every time and I can't say that for many authors. This book was just like the rest...a good read. You always end her books with a sign and a smile.
