About the Author

Lauren Layne writes contemporary romance for Grand Central Publishing (Forever) and Random House (Loveswept).

After dabbling in an e-commerce career in Seattle and Southern California, Lauren moved to New York City where she now writes full time.

Lauren graduated from Santa Clara University with B.S. in Political Science that she has yet to put to good use. She lives with her husband and plus-sized pomeranian in a tiny Manhattan studio.

More About the Author

Lauren Layne used to work in e-commerce. She wore cute shoes and real-person clothes like an adult.

Then she was like, NOPE, changed into her pajamas and started writing romance novels.

She believes in sarcasm, weekday happy hours, and happily ever after.

Customer Reviews

All in all it was a lighthearted, humorous and fun romantic story.

I will definitely be picking up this book when it comes out and I can't wait to read the next book in this series.

Gray is a very repressed type of hero who pairs perfectly with the charming Sophie.

Format: Mass Market Paperback
Very few books can make me laugh out loud—particularly in the romance genre, unless it's over how ridiculous the dialogue or characters are—but Lauren Layne had me clutching my sides with her rare ability to combine heart-melting romance with caustic humor in this first full-length novel.

The magic lies in the protagonist, Sophie; a smart, but under-ambitious social butterfly who's always been happy with just being the fun one, she is probably one of the most lovable female characters I've "met," ever. Only with You is mostly from her third-person perspective, which sets the tone of the novel perfectly: just like her, it's snappy, sparkly, and witty. You can't not crack a smile every time Sophie makes a family-inappropriate remark or dives into a hilarious faux pas with Gray.

And it all starts when he mistakes her for a prostitute. The first time they meet.

Readers, you've been warned: this is not a sweet, love-at-first-sight kind of romance. It's a Wait—you're-not-a-gold-digger?!?!? kind of romance. And it's one of the best I've ever read.

Sophie's your typical fun-loving, confident party girl, but as her masked vulnerabilities are slowly revealed, readers discover she's also got a darker, more rebellious side. She refuses to fit into the cookie cutter mold of her lawyers-and-doctors family, or to live up to her boring-as-nude-pumps, perfect orthodontist sister—not because she isn't good enough, but because she doesn't want to risk disappointing anybody. For a girl who's always at ease with herself and possesses the uncanny gift of making others feel at ease with her, she's actually pretty vulnerable, and she's got quite a bit of figuring out in her life to do.

You'd think Grayson Wyatt would have less to worry about.

REVIEWED BY KINDLE GAL & EMILY

KINDLE GAL: Hey, Em. You and I have read Lauren Layne's Sex, Love & Stiletto series, and while I know we both thought it was good (some books more than others), I feel like this new series is going to be more my style. Whereas I struggled a bit with the heroines in all of the Stiletto stories, I immediately found the heroine in Only with You (The Best Mistake), Sophie Dalton, extremely likable. She's funny, sassy, loyal, and ... well, a bit of a mess. But that actually made me love her even more! Sophie felt real to me. She's someone who has been pigeonholed most of her life as being a bit flighty and never one to take too seriously, unlike her older sister, Brynn. And even though there is a lot more to Sophie than meets the eye, she tends to play the part because it's easier than trying to prove everyone wrong. That is, until she meets Grayson Wyatt. Yes, I realize you're probably doing a double take right now, since I'm notoriously hard on heroines. But you are too, so I'm curious to know what you thought of Sophie.

EMILY: What? YOU actually liked a heroine?? If I wasn't totally in girl-love with Sophie myself, I'm sure my jaw would be on the floor! It really is quite creepy how aligned we are sometimes.

Sophie is hilarious and awesome and I completely related to her (though I was also able to relate to serious sister Brynn too - must be the brilliance of Lauren Layne!). Sophie IS a hot mess, but she knows it and wants to change. She just isn't entirely sure how to do it. Sophie reaches a personal low point at the beginning of

3.5 Stars

This is one of those books that I liked but damn there were several instances I wanted to scream at the hero and heroine and say "just do it already!" Holy smokes there was some serious chemistry and a whole lot of frustration until they finally did the deed. However, Only with You by Lauren Layne was emotionally charged and sinfully sexy and it has hooker boots; it's hard not to enjoy a book with hooker boots!

Sophie and Gray meet under unusual circumstances with each of them not making the best impression on the other. Weeks later they meet again when Gray arrives at a family dinner with Sophie's sister, Brynn. Sophie can't believe her worst nightmare is in her parent's house and Gray is just trying to figure out a way to leave but the attraction between them is easy to spot.
I really didn't like Gray very much at all. He is just too uptight and almost robotic in his actions and demeanor and he said so many hateful things towards Sophie. That's not to say Sophie wasn't a piece of work because she was but she was a likeable piece of work. I felt for her because she had a whole lot of people expecting things out of her and she wasn't even sure what she expected out of herself and Gray tried to help her with that which I appreciated.

This was a messy romance with so many ups, downs, and mistakes that at times I wasn't sure they really should be together. The thing is, it became obvious that they brought out in each other what so many others never saw and they really and truly needed one another.

What really impressed me about this book was the secondary characters added so much to this story and really saved it on more than one occasion. They added a whole lot of insight and fun to what could have been a really dark love story.

While not my favorite book by this author, I still enjoyed the quirky heroine and the fantastic supporting cast.
