5.0 out of 5 stars Great place to start!!!
True these are tracks that have been released on other cds; but if you do not have any TC you need this one.

Tony Carey is a masterful musician and song writer. He was in the band Rainbow and while releasing solo material also released song under the band Planet P Project. I have been a fan of TC for many years. He has inspired me to play and write some...

3.0 out of 5 stars basically songs from two albums
The songs on this are from "Islands and Deserts" and "The Boystown Tapes" (or maybe "The Boystown Tapes Reissued"). They are a good set of songs, but I'd expect a "collection" to pick songs from a wider range of albums. In my opinion, most people would be better off buying those two studio albums instead of this collection.

Tony Carey never stops to amaze me in his diverse song writing. This cd is the best of a great cannon of work by this brilliant man. I love the Solitary man cover of Neil Diamond.

You need this cd and you need to check out his other works; Remember Tony Carey and Planet P Project. Great music for everyone.

I loved the c.d. Leave it to Tony to come up with great music and stories. The tracks are reminiscent with all of his other works. If you like Tony's music, this is a must have. I loved it so much I bought one for my brother too.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Answer to "Where was Tony Carey in the 1990s?", October 11, 2008
This review is from: Only The Young Die Good (Audio CD)
Have you wondered what musician Tony Carey has been doing between his last "known" solo (as both Tony Carey and Planet P Project) releases in the 1980s and his re-emergence with the Planet Project Go Out Dancing trilogy in the mid 2000s? Besides becoming a well-respected producer and session musician, Carey has been steadily releasing his own music, primarily in his country-by-adoption, Germany.

Finally, Renaissance Records has begun releasing both his new albums and reissuing those that have been out-of-print for years. In addition to the remastered classics and new releases, this is an extraordinary chance to sample Carey's work between "then" and "now."

I would highly recommend the compilation titled Only the Young Die Good. Clocking at just over 72 minutes, every track is satisfying, each in its own way. According to the liner notes, most of these tracks were recorded during the 1990s and released "halfheartedly" on various out-of-print albums.

What may come as a surprise is that in addition to the rock with which we became familiar from his days with Rainbow and his early solo career and the progressive rock style of Planet P Project, Carey also composes ballads. His talent in this genre surpasses any of his earlier work.

Over the years, Carey's voice has deepened and evolved to that of a master. Despite its occasional hoarseness, he is never off-pitch - quite rare today. His ability to convey his emotions through his vocals alone sets a standard other musicians would do well to emulate.

Carey himself, with some additional guitars, drums, and backing vocals from guest musicians, performed almost all of the instrumental accompaniment. The same is true of the engineering and mastering. Carey produced all tracks.

The one cover, Solitary Man, sets the standard for that oft-recorded chestnut. In every sense, Carey transforms it to his own inimitable style. The remainder of the tracks -- all written or co-written by Carey - cover the full spectrum of emotions in a range of styles.

Whether you are a longtime fan of or newly acquainted with the music of Tony Carey and Planet P Project, Only the Young Die Good should be at the core of your collection.
