As Vince says in the commercial "you're gonna love my nuts" but the slap chop doesn't do a very good job of chopping them. This thing is flimsy and cheap. It has a hard time chopping foods with peels. Food goes everywhere and gets stuck in the blades. I don't recommend this TV product.

Mine does not chop, it just trys to. Won't chop through apple , garlic , onion. The food gets caught up in the blades. This is the first time I used it, but I'm looking for an easier one to chop with. The chopped onion (which is why I bought it) comes out in big pieces and they are stuck in the blades, I have to dig them out. This is no fun!

It doesn't work if you don't slap it. It's called a slap chop for a reason. Slap that sob and it will chop and rotate. Works great on oreo cookies for ice cream. Havn't tried it on soft textured food yet, but I did try it on grilled chicken which has left me impressed that it cut it up into fine pieces. Again, this is not a [...] pump, you have to slap it with some force. Faster a blade moves on any tool the better it will cut.

It only gets 4 stars. Materials used for the design are kinda cheap. Can't complain for [...] bucks though. About ordering these products and paying shipping? Why would you do such a thing. Go to Walgreens or Walmart. They usually get the as seen on tv products pretty quickly and you pay the same amount pre-shipping without having to pay shipping. Shamwows - 20bucks Slapchop-[...] bucks.

On the other spectrum people are complaining about the shamwows. Only they are usually the ones who are misusing the product. Have to use them damp. SLAP SLAP SLAP IT!

I purchased two of these to give as gifts this past holiday season. One of which went to my husband, my in-house chef, who seems to be constantly chopping celery or onions for various dishes. I'd seen the ads on TV for it and loved the simplicity of the device. I have an electric chopper, but thought the Slap Chop looked a bit more compact and would travel well for camping trips.

Out of the box I noticed that the plastic used in the device is fairly flimsy. The blades too are very thin. The entire product does not seem to be designed with durability in mind, and if used gingerly, it would probably stand up to a year or two of weekly, light use at most.

To test the product I tried a hard boiled egg first. The egg got stuck in the blades and really didn't get chopped as much as 'mushed'.

The next test was an onion. You have to start with a fairly small piece and yes, 'slap' the top which propels the chopping blades down in a plunger-type action to the cutting board below. It cut the onions, I then twisted the device to get another angle on the onions and did it again. The Slap Chop worked OK for onions.

Tomatoes were next. Starting with a quarter of a tomato, the Slap Chop did its thing. The harder and faster I slapped the blades down, the better the cut. Still, it seemed like a knife would work just as well and be just as fast considering set-up and clean-up times too.

Clean-up was easy, which is perhaps the Slap Chop's best feature. Not much more difficult than running your knife under the water.

The bottom line: a flimsy kitchen tool that won't replace a good knife. Not the amazing time-saving device I'd hoped for and not something I would recommend to my friends. It could be something for the picnic basket, camping or hiking gear kitchen, but durability is likely to be an issue.

We bought this at a store because it was the only chopper available. What a waste of money. The Slap Chop does not chop very well and food would get stuck up in the blades, which was very difficult to clean due to the blades. The second time we used it, the plastic shield over the blades broke. It lived up to it's name when it "slapped" into the bottom of the trash can.

On the very first use, the plastic part that stops food from going up inside the Slap Chop broke. I had no luck contacting the manufacturer and taking advantage of my 10 year guarantee. It was only one corner that broke off, so I didn't think much of it and kept using it. After several more uses, the rest of that piece broke, so now if I want to slap my troubles away with the Slap Chop, food gets way up inside of it making it hard to clean (or chop) anything. It's worthless.
That being said, if that cheapo piece of plastic had remained in tact, this would be a 5-star rating.

I bought this only to chop peppers for salads and it does not work. I have to agree with most of the negative comments written previously.

The peppers tend to stick in the metal and don't get cut again. You end up spending more time trying to pull them out. The ones that do get chopped usually don't get chopped through the skin. I tried smaller pieces, I tried skin side up, skin side down, I tried slapping, power slamming .... it just is not a useable product for cutting peppers. I wanted really bad for this to work (I hate cutting peppers with the knife).

One last thing is after a couple chopping sessions and probably rinsing (by hand) with warm water, the plastic piece deformed and will not fit properly over the knifes, again. So if you do ignore my advice and use this product, keep to cold water.

I cannot recommend this to others.

I am still looking for a good pepper chopper....

Lasted about three days before I discarded it. The mechanism for keeping the cutters rotating didn't work on about 80% of the strokes, and putting the red plastic blade guide back in place after cleaning was a real exercise in patience. If you take the time to disassemble and reassemble into account, it'd be lots faster to just take out a paring knife and get 'er done.
