By A Customer
This review is from: Ooka the Wise: Tales of Old Japan (Paperback)
For the past year, I have been trying to find Ooka the Wise through Amazon.com. I keep getting the message, out of stock, try later. Is there anything we can do to get Ooka the Wise published again? I want my children to enjoy the many stories which showed how clevely Ooka decided a case. I can only remember 2 cases in detail and long to see the others. Amazon, can you help? Please............. Thank you

Whimsical, thought provoking, logical and entertaining!,

I found this book in an alley on the way home from elementary school one day. Once home, I was unable to put this book down as I became engrossed by the weaving tales. I highly recommend this book for any child who is particularly searching and addressing their logic skills. The lessons learned in the book are valuable throughout the ages. Currently, I utilize some of the stories in a therapeutic environment working with geriatrics, enabling them to use not only their wisdom, but their logic skills as well. I no longer have the book, but remarkably, the stories rebound in my head as if I had only read them yesterday, even though it was 25 plus years ago.

Classic tales to bridge and last for generations!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Ooka the Wise: Tales of Old Japan (Hardcover)
I first read this book over 30 years ago. I then read it over and over, and then over again. Many years ago I shared it with a young child, and gave my torn tattered copy to them. I now have my own children and recount to them my rememberences of these stories. I've been searching for some time now, and plan to repurchase one as soon as they are available. I can't wait.

One of the favorite books from my childhood...,
By A Customer
This review is from: Ooka the Wise: Tales of Old Japan (Paperback)
I got this book somehow when I was about 6 and still have it, taped together and falling apart. I have searched for a copy for years, and when it is reprinted plan to order it for every child I know. The book contains folk tales about a wise judge and his grandson - wonderful to read to smaller children or for older children to read and re-read themselves. Truly one of the great childrens' books

I grew up reading this book and loved the stories. Now, the copy I read is packed away, and I would love a new, hardcover copy! I'd buy this book in a heartbeat, and I'm sure several of my teacher friends would end up picking up copies, too!

One of the childhood "greats." Creative solutions in an unreasonable universe. Or society. Both. Plus entertaining.

Ooka the Wise,

I first read this book when I was 10. That would be 40 years ago. I've tried to find a copy of my own ever since. It was one of the best and most memorable children's books I ever read. It's right up there with Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn.

Endearing feel of poetic justice abounds,
By A Customer

Ooka Tadazuke was a pinnacle of poetic justice and a sense of fairness within this beloved classic. I would always have an idea of what he would do to make sure the sentence matched the crime, but he would take it much farther than I could comprehended at that point, rereading them at a later age made me appreciate his thought process even more. This was especially true about his family solutions, such as Ooka and the Jade Monster. I recommend this book to all that have a sense of whimsy wrapped in a logical process

I, too, grew up with the stories of Ooka. IG Edmonds retellings of historical and traditional tales had a profound effect on me, both as a child and now, as an author of children's books. These stories where originally published by the Stars and Stripes press, of all places! I can't wait to see them back in print
