5.0 out of 5 stars a must for the ska lover
yikes, this cd rips, its by far the most enjoyable cd ive ever heard, seriously its a treat to the ear. a couple of years ago i found a tape on the deck of a swimming pool, labled ska, and alas to my delight, i poped it in and it was this poorly named delightful album...whata mix, this cd has it all, some sweat well placed horn lines with a lead singer that has a one...

2.0 out of 5 stars A decent effort
I can't even count how many times I've seen the Pietasters play live in the last 10 years or so. That said, this is not a great album. It does not do the Pietasters justice or give a good idea of how the Pietasters sound. This album is slow, sluggish, and lazy. They plod through each song with no energy. The more I write this review, the more angry I am getting...

5.0 out of 5 stars This is my favorite CD in the whole world!, May 15, 1998

I love this CD and the Pietasters soooo much. The only thing that bugs me is that the best song on the cd is Maggie Mae and it's stuck as track three with another song! Oh well, it's still the best CD out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best pietasters CD out there!, January 25, 2000
This review is from: Oolooloo (Audio CD)
This is one of the greatest ska CDs available (if not the greatest). The Pietasters showcase incredible talent on this cd, especially found in their slower songs (Tell You Why) and thier party songs (Maggie Mae, Girl Take It Easy, Movin' On Up). While you have to hear these songs live to get the full effect, this CD is damn good by itself. Other classics on the cd: Biblical Sense, Freak Show, Pleasure Bribe, Night Before.

5.0 out of 5 stars Classic Third Wave CD, January 28, 2006

This classic moon release is probably the Pietasters's most favored album. This is because there is more ska on here than their other albums, which delve farther into soul and rock 'n' roll.

Every song on this cd is great, and most of them are still played live, despite the fact that this was released back in '95. Songs like "Something Better", "Freak Show", "Pleasure Bribe", and "Movin' On Up" will get anyone dancing instantly, while other classics such as "Maggie Mae", "Girl Take It Easy", "Night Before", and "Biblical Sense" will get you singing from beginning to end.

This is definitely a classic and a must have for anyone's ska collection, whether they be a huge ska fan or just a casual listener.

I am a huge fan of the Pietasters and have had the pleasure of seeing this band live. Although the recording quality of this album is absolutely atrocious it doesn't hold back the pietasters. Almost all of the songs are soulful and really good to sing along too. Not to mention it has Maggie Mae! yeah!

Their music is wonderful. I caught them at the Bottleneck in Lawrence, KS, if you ever get to see them live take the chance you won't be disappointed! One of the best ska bands around! And its great drinking music!

4.0 out of 5 stars An instant ska classic!, September 23, 1998

The Pietasters are awesome! This band from the Maryland/DC area are one of the premire thrid wave ska bands who continue to have success today. SOme of the best track on the disc include "Freak Show," and "Girl Take it Easy." Also check out the sing-a-long drinking tune "Maggie Mae," and "Biblical Sense." Some tunes that don't quite measure up to par are the repetive and kind of slow "Night Before," and "Pleasure Bribe." However this is definitle a great disc; an instant ska classic that every rude boy and girl should have in their collection. Pick this disc up and see this band live; you won't be dissapointed!

5.0 out of 5 stars a truly great album, June 17, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Oolooloo (Audio CD)
Oolooloo manages to have great rythm, great melodies, tight horns, and a geat sense of humor while avoiding the customary pitfalls of a modern ska album, fluffy lyrics, angsty lyrics and annoying punkaternative guitar. All in all it's an extremely energetic, ultimately and unavoidably excellent album.

4.0 out of 5 stars Song for song, their best album, January 23, 2011

Song for song, Oolooloo is the best Pietasters' best album. As some reviewers have noted, the production is subpar as are a few of the performances. You have to see the band live to really appreciate them. This is obviously the band's favorite album as at least five tracks of this album are still part of their live show. All of the songs here are good as the old school ska tunes ("Something Better", "Tell Me Why", "Can I Change My Mind", and "Night Before") boast catchy horn lines while the faster party tracks ("Freak Show", "Girl Take It Easy", "Maggie Mae", etc) are even better and more of their element. Their version of the R&B classic "Same Old Song" is pretty good too. The best song here (and maybe their best period) is "Movin' on Up", which starts out slow and jazzy like a buildup to a murder scene in a movie before it gets wild and chaotic during its verses and choruses. All told, very good album that would be 5 stars if it had a little more energy and a better production.

5.0 out of 5 stars It can't get any better than this!, July 7, 1999

When my old boyfriend first got me listening to ska he suggested that I buy this CD. The minute I heard it I fell in love(with the CD not him) The only thing I have to thank him for is introducing me to this wonderful music. I simply love it. A week ago all of my CD's were stolen from my car. The one that I miss the most is definately Oolooloo. I would highly recommend buying this CD. In fact I'm now buying it for the second time.
